Hydralift For Trikes

Just to let you all know that we have had this lift on for 10 months in August on the 215 in California we had two grade 8 bolts break we safely got off the highway and was able with the help of a tow truck get it upright and get some bolts back in and was instructed by Hydralift to drive 300 hundred miles back to Phoenix for repairs. Nothing I could do about a few broken welds on the highway. I drove the trip as you can imagine my butt was almost permanently puckered by the time we got there for fear the last of the welds would let go.

Today in New Mexico 35 miles from Deming we stopped for lunch I was checking the Trike and car and low and behold we had the same issue on the other side of the lift. Now these people say they will send repair people out in their warranty. I called and they told me to go get some bolts and fix it " they were not sending anybody...again this time either". I had one small bolt and nut that almost fit, thank GOD for washers. So with my terminal butt puckers I headed out I-10 to Demings. I know have it repaired...somewhat until I can get some place to get it repaired correctly ( all the rest of the bolts are bent and stretched).

Long story short dont buy a Hydralift if you expect them to honor their warranty.

WOW! Really sorry to hear this! What is the weight of your trike? Supposedly, the lift capacity of mine is 1200 lb, which is 50% over the weight of my BMW K1600 motorcycle. I do a cursory check at most stops, but I'll be looking VERY closely at my lift at every stop, now.

Unfortunately in today's world some dealers knowingly or unknowingly buy counterfeit grade 8 bolts. You could have a very good legal case in which Hydralift would be responsible.

You need an examination of bolt heads on failed pieces.

Wow! That's scary. I had Hydralift on our 2005 CC Magna and never had a problem in over 20,000 miles. I will say I was only carrying a 2013 BMW K1600GTL that weighed about 880lbs. My friend has over 20,000 miles carrying a Honda Goldwing that weighed about 1,000 lbs without a problem behind his 2003 CC Magna. I'm wondering who did your install? And how much does what your carrying weigh? How far does it stick out and put extra leverage on the lift mounts? Could whoever did the install have used subpar counterfeit bolts?

Best of luck!

I too have a hydralift without problems. Only 3-4k so far and only carrying a 550lb BMW R1200GS, but problem free so far.
I was worried about going this route in the first place. I think installer is critical too. Hydralift recommended Cliff's Welding out of Mesa AZ for the work and said they've intalled more of them than just about any other shop. Read reviews and decided to pull tbe trigger. Happy with the lift and their install. Their welder told me of some of the bad intalls they have had to correct, including a trike nightmare.......good luck on repairs..

I've been around a lot of these lifts (motorcycle, golfcart, trike & SXS) as a user & an installing dealer. My first thought after seeing this is one of two possibilities, either the hardware came loose or the bolts had been replaced with the wrong grade of bolt. I've not seen that happen before so my guess is they started coming loose. This clamp is the same one (I believe) that is used on all the different lifts.

I would definitely crawl all around the lift as well as all the mounting points to the coach checking every weld and looking for any bends.

IF anything doesn't look or seem right, take pictures and send them to Brad at Hydralift and stop using the lift until it's resolved.

The Trike nightmare was probably ours. Cliff's redid the lift in August but will have to say the original installer paid for the correction, a new tow bar and our 6 days at an RV Park in Mesa. Hydralift was aware of the corrections that Cliff's did along with new bolts in August.

The issue this last time was because when we called and spoke with Brad at Hydralift, he wasn't willing to send out a mechanic to reinstall the bolts even though they have a years warranty on their product.
