Testing the stator rotor on Onan QD8000

My generator has gone belly-up throwing a code 27 PMA sense loss. I find no loose magnets or dust in the housing. I have to test the stator/rotor voltage according to the manual which has you crank the engine via the proprietary Cummins In Power machine while checking the voltage on PMA pairs. The results will tell you if you have a bad stator or rotor or if they are good and it's your controller/converter, which is what I need to determine. Of course I do not have an In Power. My questions are: How can I crank the engine without starting it without the Cummins equipment? Secondly, since the engine starts perfectly unless the breaker for the generator side is on, can I just disconnect all the PMA leads from the controller inverter and test the voltages with the engine running? I would assume if I have even voltages even though higher than cranking this would tell me something. Would this damage the stator? Would this work? I might have more questions but this is the first step. I've already checked the resistance's and shorts and it checks out.

Any other ideas on the code 27 are welcomed.
