Dead Bolt key won't go in

Yahoo Message Number: 115477
We have always locked the dead bolt with our key, but the other day the key would not into it's slot. The dead bolt locks fine with the fob or manually with the inside latch. Any ideas for a remedy or is a visit from the locksmith in order?

The door may have shifted in its frame. Try moving the door around to free it.

I would try a bit of WD-40 squirted into the lock. If you can then get the key in and operate the lock, wipe the key off and repeat the process until the key comes out clean. If this doesn't work I think it is time to call a locksmith.

Key operated locks are like your generator, they need to be exercised occasionally. When I purchased my Magna the bay lock keys did not work well. I had a locksmith tell me to use a bit of WD-40 and to operate the locks once in awhile.

Graphite is the correct remedy. Its in powder form but comes in a small tube that when pressed blows the graphite powder into the keyhole.
