Xantrex Inverter and MAGNUM SMART BATTERY COMBINER

Yahoo Message Number: 115529
First, I have no idea how all these things work together.

I noticed that the Smart Battery Combiner was showing a yellow light. The light was next to the
Low voltage Disconnect. I pushed the reset button, but nothing changed. The unit has a red wire
Coming from it that has a 20 amp fuse in line. When I removed the fuse I noticed that it was blown.

I changed the fuse and the unit went back to showing a Green light.

I followed the wire and it ends at a cluster of wires. See below.....

Does anyone have any idea why the fuse would blow, being "Low Voltage" or what would cause this.

After repairing this (I hope).

I notice that my inverter is blinking green. Looking at the manual it says "SEARCH MODE".
Sorry, but what is it searching for?

I have a Xantrex RV2012, which is the 2000 watts model.

Since we are talking about that area in the coach. Has anyone put some type of filter (loose weave)
On the grates in this area. At least to slow down the dirt/crude from getting into the battery area and Inverted
Where the Are located at.

Thanks for your input and insight on these matters.

I think the 20 amp fuse was there when the Echocharger was installed. The Magnum battery combiner is capable of moving 30 amps so the 20 amps is inadequate. I put a 30 amp fuse in both of my hot leads.

George is a little 'crisper' in his post then I was on my long winded nature:)! But yes, mine was 20A and blowing. Reviewing the schematics and taking with Magnum, and bumped up to 30A:)!

(Hey George - Still hot and humid and occasional 'winds' in Birmingham? Stay cool, and safe from those occasional small storms!!!!)

Best to all,

Smitty, you know better than to think I am in Birmingham. Have been in Santa Fe since mid June with departure around September 1.

Swing on by again.

George and Smitty,
You guys are a world of info. Thanks for all the info.
I had the coach plugged into a normal 110 volt outlet when I noticed all
These troubling things. Once I replace the 20 amp fuse the Smart Battery combiner
Went to a green light. But after traveling for the day when I got to our next stop it
Was back to yellow, so that means the fuse blew again.

So, with that in mind... Smitty and George, did U use a regulat 30 amp fuse or
Go with a slow blow one?

Now I'm plugged into a 50 amp pedestal in the RV Park and the green light is still
Blinking. But, it maybe doing that because of the blown fuse. As soon as i hear back
About which fuse to put in ( slow blow or regular) maybe things will change.

Again, thank for all your help and info.

Sorry for the delayed response. I've attached a link to a post on IRV2, prior to me finding out the blade fuse holder was bad. But, where I confirmed it was the wrong size fuse (Including the call to Magnum Tech Support to review my application.).

It's a Fast Blow 30A Blade Fuse in my setup.

Best of ongoing luck to you,
Smitty
