Xantrex Inverter and MAGNUM SMART BATTERY COMBINER [3 Attachment

Looks like the inline fuse for one of the battery tenders. I believe it's a slow blow fuse check the numbers carefully to get the right fuse or you could be replacing it again soon. For me this fuse was keeping my batteries from charging.

The SBC is a pretty sophisticated unit, and after studying the manual some (Available online, if you need it.), pretty easy to set up.

Lots of variables, so one answer does not fit all:)!

Setting the Low and High Voltage cut out points, is dependent upon battery types. AGM would have a different voltage then Wet. So determine what batteries you have for house and for chassis, and use those perimeters. (And, Magnum Tech Support, is pretty cool to work with if you have any questions or concerns. I've talked with them several times, on various products, and find they very seldom don't have good advice for me.). (When in doubt, using the Default SBC values, is probably not going to hurt anything, and still provide charging between the two batteries. Turning all the settings to the far left, is basically default.)

The SBC basically makes sure the House Battery is charged up first, then based upon the values on the settings (Connect / Low / High) diverts charge to maintain the Chassis. (Looking at the wires going into the wire block, 1 is the Main; 2 Auxiliary; 3 is the Common (So 1 is house; 2 should feed Chassis; 3 Is Negative feed that supports both House and Chassis)
Chasing the wires down, can help you confirm it is set up properly.

On the fuse. Well I had two problems with blown blade fuses on our SBC.

1) The tech that installed it, misread the application for my install, and undersized the blade fuse. So at times it would blow, and no indicator from the SBC that a fuse is blown. After the Chassis battery getting low a few times, I started to investigate and found the blown fuse. After it happened about three times, blowing, I called and talked things over with Magnum. And we found the tech had put in the lower Amp Blade Fuse. So I bumped it up to the higher Amp that was appropriate for my specific install.

2) The plastic molding of the Blade Fuse holder that was blowing, had a defect. It was in an awkward location to work, an all was done by feel to remove and replace fuses. I took a mirror and flashlight and looked into the female part of the molding, and found the female connections that the Blades slide into, had one female side twisted off to the side during molding. So the blade on that end, was just sliding down the side of the female connections. Would make contact, but not solid contact. So even with the proper size Blade Fuse Amp wise, it would still 'blow' from time to time. Bought new a new Blade Fuse holder, cut out the olde, spliced in the replacement, and no problems for the last 12 months or so. (Note: In hindsight, I should have bought one of the Blade Fuse holders that had a light on it, to indicate the fuse was still 'active'. Would have made easier visual validation that the fuse was in good shape!)

I believe my two problems were unusual. Easy mistake on the undersize Amp of the Fuse, but then compounded due to the less then tight fit of both of fuses 'blade's'.

On the 'Searching'. Is the coach plugged into shore power? If not, this could indicate the unit is in 'Search Mode' for power. If no Shore Power is available, fire up the generator, and see what happens. (I no longer have the Xantrex, changed over to Magnum MS2812, SBC, AGS, BMK, etc. - when we upgraded our battery bank. I had some electronics that would play better with Pure Sine Wave, thus the change away from teh Xantrex (SP?).

Best of luck to you,
Smitty
