HWH Question

Yahoo Message Number: 115770
I am new to this group and to my 2007 Magna, so if my etiquette is incorrect, please feel free to correct me. I have discovered that if there is an excessive slope that my slides will not open. What I have been doing is this: Press the level button twice for automatic leveling, wait, find out I have an excessive slope, attempt to open the slides, they won't open, Place the motorhome back in travel mode, open the slides even though the Motorhome is still NOT LEVEL and less level than when in auto level with excessive slope light on, and then either automatic level again, or manually level. I have also tried dumping all the air and manually leveling which sometimes works better in my view than automatic leveling, but the basic problem is I do not like opening the slides without the motorhome being level as the manual says not to do this. I have purchased some blocks to put under the tires and my intention is to use my iPhone level feature to learn how many degrees the HWH system can generally do to know when I will need to use the blocks so that I can get the motorhome totally level without having to try to level, find the dreaded excessive slope, travel mode, open the slides level again or even worse is when I unsuccessfully auto level, air dump, try to unsuccessfully manual level, travel mode, open slides, attempt leveling again. Any suggestions? I am certain that some other folks have experienced the same problem and I am curious as to your thoughts on this particular problem?

AH, the pains of owning a longer coach. Yes you are not supposed to put the slides out unless the coach is level, and yes you will have to carry blocks with you for when the slope is beyond the capability of the coach. It's true in difficult situations you should dump the air and level up, though its faster to level down. I carry a 30 inch level because even though I had the coach calibrated twice, what the computer think is level is not in my case. When I owned an Airstream TT we were taught to level where the refer was located as the chassis could twist. So after having leveled the coach a few times I found the difference between the floor at the entry and in front of the refridgerator in my coach did not vary I let the coach do it own thing and then touch it up manually. If I realize the computer isn't going to be able to handle the job, I get out the blocks right off. Then level manually. One time the leveling system got confused and when I opened the bay door the gasket that holds the computer card module in place failed. So I had to duct tape the module in place until I could get replacment gaskets. Another time a fuse blew on the control card. Twice I have had to remove power from the HWH system to get it to reboot.

Of all the suppliers HWH and Fantastic vent are the best to deal with. So give them a call if you feel you can't get answers other wise. TWInsall 42' 2004 Intrigue.

No doubt that air bag leveling does not have the range of jacks. However the air bags don't give concern as to what type of ground is under the coach.

I learned early on the hard way that side to side level is far more critical than front to back. Why? Because if the coach is already off level side to side there is an amount of tortion (twist) on the frame. Now move out a slide on the low side and you add more tortion to the frame. In my case I decided to live with whatever leveling I could get for a one night stand. I pushed out the living room slide and less than a minute later I heard the crunch. The driver's side windshield had split right up the middle from top to bottom. The twist in the frame had distorted the windshield frame too the point that the pressure in the windshield was more than it could stand. Slope all you want front to back but don't extend the large slides unless you are pretty close to level side to sidd. One quick check for frame tortion is to get out and try to open the bay doors. If they won't open caution, caution caution.
