Death Valley route

Has anyone taken Hy# 178 north out of Ridgecrest, Ca. into Death Valley?

Was wondering how the road was.....is it a good way to go?...

My brother lives in Ridgecrest and usually takes this road towards Vegas. Although, he hasn't driven his M/H on this road, he mentioned that its a good road and a nice ride through. He stated that it may not be a good idea at night and that in certain spots cell phone service was zero and there may not be many if any vehicles at night? Hope this helps, somewhat?
