Garage Door Width & Height Suggestions

Folks,

I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate transmission.
. I'm building a barn and am seeking suggestions for Class A Door widths and heights. For those of you with 'barns', any suggestions for appropriate sizing would be greatly appreciated.

You want a minimum of 10'wide by 14'high. That is what I have, and I wish it were 12' wide.

Hi Bill,

I built a RV storage building last year. After quite a bit of research I settled on an insulated overhead rollup door 14' high X 14' wide. This is a "standard" industry size (although it may have to be special ordered.) The next shorter standard height is 12' which does not give you adequate overhead clearance. Any height between the two becomes a custom size and is relatively more expensive. I had a good installation and the door can be pulled up and down manually without undue effort. Notwithstanding that fact, I also installed an electrically operated overhead door opener which really adds to the convenience.
You will not regret the 14 foot width if you have the buidling dimenions to handle it. Your mirrors protrude quite a bit from tip to tip and the 12 foot width can get really tight when backing out. A local RV dealer strongly advised me to get the extra width based on door experiences at his shop.

Get a 16' tall door it sounds to tall but you need room for the door to open (the door may be below the opening 8"-"12" also room for antenna. my my my my barn door is only 13' coach is 11'7" (newer coaches are 12'2" buses add a couple of more inches) my coach's antenna bang against the door Also consider getting on top of the coach after it's parked inside if you can get around easy is great when you need to clean or caulk. My door is 16' wide I have also fairly straight drive in and out but iv the property line was farther away I would have gone to 20' again sounds big but it is nice to be able to open all bays for load unload cleaning and room to walks around ladder for wax act.

the door on our motorhome garage is 14 feet high and 12 feet wide with wind reinforcement for winds of 125mph. we live in florida.

Wen I build our Pole barn I put roll-up doors in each end. Both are 14 ft. High and one is 12 ft wide and other is 14 ft. wide. for farm implements. I wish both were 14 ft wide It would make alittle easier for Wife to drive our Rig into the barn late at night in the dark. The sticker in the dash says our '01 Intrigue is 12ft-1 in high. So with a straight approach 12ft-6 would be sufficient if you want to live close to the edge of collision........

I think we should individually block and/or ignore non-Country Coach types of discussions. Even though this forum is "open" we can police it by not participating in these extraneous unrelated discussions.
Responding to them is a waste of time and, in many instances, perpetuates them.
