AQUAHOT heating fans?

Yahoo Message Number: 116658
It's getting cold and I have been checking out the ability to stay warm at 10 degrees. I find the flow from the aqua-hot floor vents is almost nil.  Is there a two speed switch to kick up the flow. This heat wouldn't keep us warm at 40 deg much less sub 20. I sure hope there is something I am missing.  Country Coach couldn't have designed this to be the sole sub 32 heating system.

Going through the same thing, my Diesel burner in't coming on just the elect 10kw coil. That's not enough to do much of anything. Wednesday a tech is coming out.

We have an Aqua Hot (Hydro Hot) heater in our coach and it has kept us cozy in weather down to zero on multiple nights. If you have floor heat that will also kick out a massive amount of radiant heat. Our Intrigue has 4 vents.... Bedroom, under the shower, kitchen toe kick and under the drivers center stack. We typically have to TURN DOWN the bedroom to 65 even in freezing weather in order to not get roasted out. The biggest impact you will see is in fuel consumption. The Aqua Hot burns 0.35 Gal of Diesel per hour of actual burn. Over the period of a month where daytime highs were in the 30s and nite time lows were in the 10s and 20s we burned about 70 gal of Diesel. You could put a small floor fan in front of your heater to more quickly distribute the air coming from the hydro hot if you wanted to....

We have a 2004 Allure with Hydro Hot. We have been down to 9 degrees with ice and snow and were pretty warm. We did put the front slide in because we didn't want ice and snow on the awning and that also seemed to help with warmth. Seems that the coldest area was around the front slide. Bedroom slide is smaller and didn't seem to make a difference. The heat coming from our vents is very warm but it doesn't blow fast. The original heat exchanger fans didn't last long. We replaced a couple and need to replace more. We replaced the bedroom heat exchanger with computer fans and made our own bracket from plexiglass. The computer fans have a slightly higher CFM. Roger Berke (Aqua Hot guru) has a website. It lists parts and one is a speed switch for heat exchangers (not sure what models). He is an excellent resource. http://rvhydronicheaterrepair.com/Index.htm You will have to register on his site. Not sure if he still attends RV Shows. Some of the older heat exchangers only have one speed. Maybe the newer ones have switches to control the speed? It does take some time to heat up the coach with hydronic heating. You won't get the blast of hot air but after a few minutes it should warm the coach comfortably.
When we're parked we only use the electric switch for hot water if the weather is not cold. When it's cold, we turn on both the electric and the diesel switches. Hope this helps.

X's 2 what Lonny & Diane said, even down to the computer fans swap out in place of squealing fan on our front registry. (Quieter, and also higher CFM.).

Also in cold weather. Get a few curtain rods, and place some insulation in the shower solar dome. We used cut to fit and double folded then taped with packing tape, silver bubble insulation you see in windows all of the time. We use it for both cold, and hot, as it really helps keep the coach cool in hot weather too.

Roger is as mentioned, a class act and good resource. Whenever possible, I try to source parts thru him, regardless of price (He may not be the lowest but he is in the ballpark - and rewarding the knowledge info he shares, I feel warrants a bit higher prices at time:)!).

Hey all. I am watching this tread and wonder where to get bigger computer fans as mentioned. We have a 2000 Allure which the PO had upgraded the original gas furnace to the webasto. There are four heat exchangers as mentioned in thread. The front and mid exchangers could use more fan so to speak. The unit under fridge ties into the same pipes the gas heat did and there is barely any flow coming out. Also front unit has trouble keeping up with cold weather. Fan info would be great thanks!

I'd do fresh research, check Amazon. Look for highest CFM and Lowest Noise Levels. In 2014 I ordered two of these units:

Amazon.com: Noctua NF-B9 PWM Cooling Fan: Computers & Accessories

But things change, so doing a fresh search is suggested:)!

I've also pancake fans in Fry's Electronic Stores, and I'm sure others too.

Also depending upon the register, the approach to obtaining access is different. The unit I added the fans too, was in the front under the dash in front of the passenger seat. I had to remove the wooden cabinet to obtain access.

Timing on this is perfect, as our OEM register's fan under the galley is just started to squeal at the end of this years trip. It looks on our coach, to access this register, I'll have to remove the bottom shelf of where we store the pots & pans below the counters stove top. Will be a project for over the holidays:)! And I'm not sure if I'm going to go with the pancake fans, or look into if a variable fan control unit from Roger Berke's(S?) will work in this location.

Our coach has two zones, with two registers each. We use the front zone about 50% more often then the rear. So not surprised that both of these registers squirrel cage fans started to get fussy:)!

Best to all,
Smitty

I also got my computer fans at frys. Take yours with you as there are different sizes and configurations for mounting holes.

Does anyone know how to remove the passenger side dashboard to get to the front heat exchanger?

Should be able to get to it from the outside. Put generator out and I think there is a panel you can remove to service the heat exchangers.

Dear Smitty,

How did you wire this fan. It comes as a 4 pin our connector is 2 pin. Did you use an adapter?

Thank you,
Marta
