Intermittent run ability problems.

Yahoo Message Number: 116725
I have an 06 country coach with the C9 engine. The coach has only 49000 miles and is well maintained.
The problem started about three years ago when the coach stalled out running like it was low on fuel. I changed the filter and separator and drove about 2000 miles and it happened again. Fear contaminated fuel, I changed the filters again and the coach worked well for another 2000 miles and the stop engine light came on and it began stalling again. A mechanic could find nothing wrong but put in a fuel pressure regulator. That repair went 3000 miles and the stalling resumed.
It's in. Truck repair facility right now and even though it stall right in their driveway when I arrive at their facility, it still shows no error code.
I would pay a lot of money to get this fixed as it causes me a lot of stress with the uncertainty it causes.
Anyone else ever experience similar problems.
The coach is an Inspire with the C 9 power plant.

Dave - Understand the frustration on this, and the 'concern' that it could happen again. As you know, intermittent problem are hardest to find.

I've never owned a CAT, so not too informed on how to help you with this.

But, if you can go back to the first time you remembering it happened time wise, did you have any work done before then? If so, perhaps the region of that work around the engine, might lend a clue.

I've also seen many reports of 'Well dang if I know why, the 'fill in the blank here' item is now working!'. This is from doing simple things like:
-Un-pluggin/Re-plugging harnesses between the Engine ECM, or form between the Engine and the Transmission.
-Removing the Starter batteries Negative, and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes, then reconnecting - sort of a 'reboot'.
-Cleaning any ground that you can find, including the main Ground from Chassis Battery to Frame (Or wherever it ground.)
-If seems to stager a little before stalling, as in fuel starvation, chewing fuel pumps (If appropriate for a C9?).
-And having a Scotch after each stalling, helps steady the nerves...

You might also post this question over on IRV2's Power Section under CAT engines. Another set of eyes on the problem might yield another option for things to consider.

Best to you,
Smitty

Dave, what is your coach number? Ours is an 06 Inspire 51784. We've owned it since it was brand new. We haven't had this stalling take place. We sure do wish you the best in finding out what's going on.

Had some intermittent engine warning lights. They came on at 800 to 1000 mile intervals. It did not stall. First place I took found nothing. Finally took it to Cat dealer. They changed the ECM. That was about 12000 miles ago, and all has been good since.

I have been told that non-Cat shops don't have the full up to date software for testing. I do NOT know if this is true.

I might add that the mechanic was delighted when I showed him easy access from the R rear storage compartment wall with the removable engine access.

Weird that there is no code. Have them check the lift pump. We had to have one replaced in our '04 Allure. Ours did show a code tho.

I have a 2007 45 Intrigue. Would not start tried every thing. Had it flat bedded
to Cat dealer 65 miles away. They found a loose ground wire to the computer
in the engine compartment. Have not had a problem since. Its worth a try. Good luck.
