Country Coaches with Cummins ISM's?

Yahoo Message Number: 116934
I always look at, and appreciate, Damon Rapozo's Model History. While it is truly a great resource, and the only one like it that I know of, it's impossible for Damon to list all of the specific's nuances within a year and model.

I knew the later years Allure Crane Prairies had the Cummins ISM available.

I just also learned that an Intrigue also had a a Cummins ISM in it, and it was a good example of how Damon's Model History could not show everything. It had the ISL and C-13 as the engines available.

So, I wanted to ask this CC Brain Trust (And due to the owner's that only use the IRV2 Owner's Forum, I'll post the same question there too...), the following:

Please list the Year, Model, Length and Trim Level (Cascade, Newport, Stags Leap, etc.) of Country Coaches that you know had the ISM as an optional engine. (Don't care if it's ISM450 or 500, assume most will be the ISM500).

If I get enough info back to warrant it, I'll summarize them in one post to make future searches easier to find it.

TIA for any info sharing, and best to all,

Smitty

Intrigue 12314 with ISM 500 is titled OK a 2010, started after CC's last hurrah Albany Rally of 2008. Fuel economy typically mid 6's, performance similar to our 2008 Allure Sunset Bay with 425 ISL so is somewhat a slug. ISM has been relatively trouble free with only issue being a bad injector while still under warranty. Don't know how it would compare to a 500 ISX or Detroit but suspect it would lose that three engine race. Bright spot is no DEF or DPF.

Thanks Cori,

CC and Newmar and Monaco, all ended up with inventory of ISM's. (Bought based upon forecast and hopeful turnaround of the RV industry in general, as well as to have the ISM which Cummins elected to retire instead of the costs to bring into 2007 Smog Level compliance. They elected to have the smaller block of the ISX fill the gap of the retired ISM in their lineup of engines.) So suspect the SN of your ISM will reflect a 2006/2007 build date by cummins (Which is fine:)!)

Many coaches were built after 2007, using the inventory of ISM's available. I was just not aware of that many Country Coaches:)!

In a 40' coach, I'd expect the ISM to walk away from the same coach with the ISL (Either 400 or 450HP trim.). The weight of the ISM engine itself, is higher then the ISL's - but the net gain in HP and Torque is still positive over the ISL's. (Though some coaches also beefed up the running gear from the Allison 4000 down to the wheels too, so depending on coach, the added HP/Torque could be further offset.)

I always felt the M11/ISM's were a sweet spot in displacement size, weight of engine, in regards to HP/Torque power. Compared to say moving into the ISX, or CAT C12/13 line, the power to weight ratio of just the engine itself's weight, is very favorable to he ISM.

The only downside to the later ISM's I'm aware of, are the EGR's can sometimes cause problems. And the Ugly Fix will address that issue.

Many just fact gathering, for a campaign in 2019 to possibly move up to a 42-43' coach, with at least front Disc Brakes, larger Grey/Black tanks, and a larger block engine. Yes for a bit more power, but more so for adding Braking HP that the larger displacement engines provide. The campaign? Well that's in convincing the DW to let go of our 04 Allure High Cascade that she really likes. Having personally painted the wall paper, recover the valances, remove the beveled mirrors backsplash, etc., etc... I did get her to walk thru many different coaches while at Premier for this years maintenance. And, she actually liked some of the 42 -45' coaches! (She feels 45' is 'too big', and our parking space while not traveling is better suited to a max of 43'...).

My 2nd most favorite engine, the C-12 (Though it's pretty much a tie with the Detroit Diesel Series 60.), are in coaches without front Disc's.) One of the main strategies of my campaign, is the safety of shorter stopping distances with at least front Disc Brakes. But if we were ready to buy today, I'd try to dodge her raised eyebrow when I'd suggest we take a more personal look at the 03 Affinity 42' that Kenai Coach has on hand. (She would catch, that it did not have front disc's.... thus, the raised eye brow!). When we ere in the are in November, I did stop and look at the outside of this unit thru the gate (Did not make an appointment.), even got my small binoculars out to look at it.) And the DW liked the color scheme too. The add, and inside pictures, read well for this coach. And it has the C-12. Price? Well, asking and actual selling can sometimes be different. But I've always advised family members when looking at used cars, boats, RV's etc. - that if you find an item that really hits all of the marks on what you are looking for, and it has documented outstanding maintenance - that it is sometimes more of a value paying a bit more for an item, then getting the rock bottom price point, of a lesser cared for item... Pay a bit more, but usually that comes back to you with lower maintenance over the using period for the item. And satisfaction of ownership also has a value too.

For the right buyer, this coach could be the right unit...:)!

In the meantime, I'll keep researching:)! And if asked what the odds are of a 2019 change of coaches for us, well, I'd give it 50/50. As our Allure is treating us fine, and we did just break the dang engine in about 12-14 months ago!! We do have front flooring to still take care of, and probably ~$5K of body work and touch up paint remaining on the exterior. So I could easily loose this campaign:)!

Best to all, and thanks again for anymore years and models and lengths of known CC's with ISM's.
