Leveling situation improved- but saga continues!

Thank you everyone who suggested repair for my CC Tribute's recent
leveling issue (left rear). As suggested by a reader here (THANK YOU!!!!
) I drove it the 90 miles up to Cummins coach repair in Harrisburg PA,
where it was found that the left rear leveling valve adjustment rod was
disconnected and bent. The leveling valve installed by Freightliner of
Hagerstown was incorrect and was hitting the upper shock mount bolt.
Cummins took it apart, straightened the rod, adjusted the valve arm for
clearance and checked the ride height. After that, all was well,
although the left rear is still a little low it now easily clears the
tire when in travel mode and I can put the tire covers on it.

BUT....when the tech was test driving it, he did not stow the shore
power cord properly and it unraveled from the spool. So they replaced it
at now charge. When I picked it up today (shop closed, I had paid via
phone for the leveling work), I noted in the inverter was off, there was
a red light glowing and the message said AV overload. Hmmm I thought. So
I unplugged, it, turned on the generator and noted the inverter turned
to bulk charging. I drove the 90 miles home.

You guessed it. I plugged into shore power at home and NOTHING. Power
gets to my surge guard, but does not charge my coach. No humming or
anything from the Magnum transfer switch. I did find and replace a blown
fuse between the Magnum indicator and wiring toward the transfer switch.
And the transfer switch hums per usual when charged by the battery. But
nothing at all when generator is off and shore power plugged in or
unplugged. ( I thought in the past I remembered a hum when all was
unplugged and turned off but maybe I am mistaken)

I am not the crying type but this makes me want to! The shop is open
again on Monday, but I work 5 days per week as a nurse practitioner and
even if I could take a day and get back to the shop this week I can't
pick it up till Saturday and it's supposed to snow all next weekend.
Then I am supposed to leave on Tuesday for some days off in the RV at
the York fairgrounds for the dog shows that week. My husband has never
driven my coach and now is not the time for him to learn, taking it up
1-81 with all the bad drivers and construction.

If anyone here has any ideas, I would love to hear them. On Monday, I
will call Cummins and see if they have a mobile tech who can come fix
the problem that THEY caused. If not, guess I'll have to dry camp at the
dog show and just wait longer for a fix.

I love my RV but this kind of stuff makes me CRAZY. Thanks for
listening and again, any ideas are welcome.

I like your idea of calling and talking with the Manager of the Cummins that ddi the work. I also hope that your receipt documented the damaged, and repaired, shore power cord. (If not. Lesson's learned that this info should be documented on the invoice from whomever caused damage while in for repair.).

If the answer is to bring it back and they'll look it over... Then it becomes a judgement call. I they damaged it, and attempted to repair it but failed - maybe they're not the shop to look at it again. (Cummins engine repair. And RV Coach repair. Are two different things. Cummins no longer, or at least no widespread, has the Coach Care side of their business.). I'd suggest give the Cummin's Shop Manager the option of sending one other tech's, or, let you call a local tech to repair - and forward the repair bill to Cummin's for either repayment. Or full credit for future Cummin's Service. (With holding the suggestion for documented compensation for future 'Full Cummin's Service' as a final non Small Claim Court approach...).

Hope fully this is a wiring problem for the place Shore Power. And or some other lower costs repair item. A normal yearly or by time/miles LOF and Generator Service, could easily cover the reimbursement to you.

And Boon Docking is great experience for you:)! (And taking the easy to say road, if you want to make your getaway - it's probably the mental approach to take...

Finally. Whenever couples go RV'ing. I personally feel it's important for both to be capable of driving the RV if necessary. Sure, many times one person handles the bulk of the driving. But, IMO, BOTH should have the ability to do so. You never know when it maybe needed...
Best to you,
Smitty
