need assistance locating J1939 port in cockpit area, please

Yahoo Message Number: 117329
Hi All,
We are thinking about purchasing a Bluefire system for our 2005 CC 40' Inspire 330 w/CAT C9. Currently, I've been only able to locate a single J1708 6- pin diagnostic port near the steering column. I would like to know if any of the Inspire folks are aware of another port in the cockpit area that has a J1939 configuration port (i.e. 9 pin)? I'd prefer using the latest 9 pin config (J1939) when using this software, as I am assuming that broader functionality will be available.

Both port configs are available in the right rear compartment, but bluetooth's range is limited and will not work from that distance.
Any help would very much be appreciated and thanks in advance for your help!

If you don't get some answers on a the plug up front. I've seen a few friends use boosters to serve various outdoor BluTooth speakers...

Here is one, that I know a friend has used successfully:

Amazon.com: Miccus Proven 300ft Long Range Bluetooth Transmitter Receiver...

Might work well for you, if you end up needing to use the rear port:)!

Best of luck to you,

The plug was in the bundle of wires in the left side drivers console, as in below to transmission selection pad. You have to separate the wire bundle to find the plugs.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for the info. I have found the 6 pin J1708 connector but not the 9 pin. Are your certain you have the 9 pin? My coach ID is 51335. Perhaps yours was manufactured after mine?

Usually there s a 6 pin OR a 9 pin, not both.

They both do the same thing, just different configurations

Thanks, Mikee!

I was afraid that your comment might have been the case here, so I'm doing some research to determine whether I can make a 40' J1939 cable and run from the compartment in the right rear (9 pin connector) to the front left "fuse" compartment and ultimately into the coach. Has anyone ever done this

According to Mark Fredrickson at Bluefire, " J1939 is far superior and more reliable than J1708".
This is why I'm so adamant about using ( pin.

Thanks

Bob,
I guess I'm not positive but, I'm pretty sure both plugs are there on mine. I do have the memory of an old guy though. I installed the Silverleaf VMSPC6 so, I used the 6 pin plug. My coach is a little later it is a 40' Davinci 51477.

Fairly certain both the six and nine pin plugs use the same 4 connections. Could wire the plug you need or make an adapter?

Did Mark at Bluefire nix the ability to use a Bluetooth booster to send the data from the Rear to the Front? Lot easier then trying to pull cable:)!

For other reasons in our coach, I added both a 120V and 12V feed into the closet area of our coach. (I power booster for the TPMS antenna with the 12V, and wall wart feed the Dyson with the 120V) While doing this, I ran a conduit from the roof down thru the rear of thecabinet where the TV used to be, to feed my solar wires down to the Controller. (Have a Circuit Breaker for each of the 5 panels, in the rear of that cabinet.) The controller is mounted to the ceiling of the back passenger cabinet that on our 04 Allure, houses the fuel filters for the engine. Which is where m rear ports are. I also fed thru this conduit, the cable to the internal display panel I cut into the side of the old TV cabinet area, for easy access. And another CAT 5 cable from the Controller (MidNite Classic 150), that I use when doing deeper dive access of info via my laptop.)

So feeding a conduit up and thru to either a cabinet and or a closet area, you could plug in to the port, and feed this to the Bluefire sender(?) and repeat/boost the signal with the unit I linked earlier. And if I misunderstood what your comment about Blutooth, forget about the booster and the easy access to run a conduit down into the rear passenger basement area:)!

Best to you,
Smitty
