After 17 years of good service, it died! Anyone have info on replacement of the failed compressor, part number for it or a substitute and an estimate of the job? [not interested in a DIY - :) ]

Dick, any good auto AC shop can take care of you. Probably a couple hundred max for the compressor, 50 for the dryer. They will have to evacuate the system saving any left over refrigerant, pull a vacuum, refill and you are good. Look at your equipment list in the medicine cabinet, it has mfg and part numbers listed.

The compressor part number was on the top of my compressor (after cleaning).

Bought a replacement & dryer from CoolAirParts.com

We just had our A/C compressor and dryer replaced. Total cost for parts and labor including drain and refill of 5# of R134-A was $1400. This was in Orlando.
