Interference with new lights

Yahoo Message Number: 117476
In my quest to improve the lighting in my 2006 Inspire, I changed out the kitchen area puck lights with dome
LEDs, completely removed the puck lights. Love how bright that area is, BUT, discovered this morning there is some sort of interference with some of the other systems. I am boondocking and when I run the generator the Intellitec Smart EMS goes nuts with lights blinking when the new lights are on. The furnace would not go off until I pulled the fuse, the thermostat showed "00" so I pulled that fuse, waited a while re-installed fuses, turned lights off, turned furnace on and all was good as furnace operated as it should with lights on or off.

It is pretty obvious to me that there is some kind of interference with the new lights. Questions: am I harming anything by having these lights on? Is there some kind of filter that can be installed to solve this problem? I hate to have to re-install the old lights (half of which don't work).

We bought LED bulbs (to replace G4) and they blinked. We bought some from CW for RV's and they didn't last a month. We found this company: http://www.m4products.com/ and ordered a few to try and when they worked, didn't blink and lasted more than a month, we then ordered bulbs for all our under cabinet lights. M4 Products may have something on their website that explains the problem and what to do to fix it. You might even call them. They have good customer service. They specialize in RV applications.

Steve @ M4 LEDS is familiar with the Intellitec System and can recommend the proper the proper led for the application.

I replaced all my lighting with M4 product a year ago and have nor had a problem.

Turn on the stuff that is acting up, then turn the LEDs on one at a time. It may be just one wacky one.

Hi Judy. When you talk about lights going nuts - were you referring to just the new lights..... or any number of electronically controlled Intellitec items?

Same question obviously for anyone else as well.

Only the lights on the intellitec panel go nuts when I turn on the new light fixtures. The lights work as they should. The thermostat is the only other thing that seems to be affected by the new fixtures. Right now I only operate the furnace when the lights are off and have pulled the fuse to the EMS panel since I am boondocking and only run the generator so am not worried about shedding loads. I will address the problem when I get to my place in WY.

Thanks for the suggestion Mikee. That will be a chore as I have 8 lights on one circuit but will certainly try this!

Recently Mr. D has had the same problem. I was told that the ballast from fluorescent lights will cause this issue. I had replaced the lights in ceiling and had trouble with flickering with the LED's I replaced. Found another brand/type of LED's and they seem to be fine.

For anyone that's been following our issues..... we're solved!!!! (Judy's thread really got the ball rolling so thank you!)

We had the problem where all sorts of lights and items (basically anything connected to an Intellitec pad anywhere in the coach) would just come on and go crazy for no reason! Fan under the bed... lights in the galley.... basement locks etc. Anything and everything! Very upsetting and frustrating as you could imagine.

Here's the bugger.... only happened here at the house while parked under a 50' tin shelter.

Talked to the neighbors. Nobody had a HAM radio or weird police scanner. Pretty sure nobody has a pot grow operation with tons of weird power draws and lighting. Premier RV had the coach for weeks and couldn't replicate the problem. So irritating!

Then Judy's post!

So I removed the aftermarket LED sconces in the salon, dining table, bedroom and overhead at the dining table.

Guess what?

No more crazy disco show with the Intellitec system. New LED lights and 2007 Intellitec systems do NOT get along! (At least not when done by a rookie at home. Maybe a shop like OMC or Dave and LJs.) I'm just thrilled the disco show is over!

I'm glad you found it, congrats! Is there an electrical engineer on this forum that could explain why this might happen? The combination of an Intellitec system and LED lights? Just curious...

Glad you found the problem. Sure hope mine turns out to be a simple fix. I'm still boondocking and have learned how to deal with the problem. If I want to run something connected to the intellitec I pull the fuse and keep the led fixtures off. Once I get settled I plan on disconnecting one light at a time and see if one fixture is causing the problem. I would also like someone to explain why the intellitec doesn't like LEDs.

It's the circuitry of the LED replacement that's causing the problem. M4 LED products work with the Intellitec system and drinkable circuits. M4's tel 818-717-8840, talk to Steve.
