Residential Fridge

Yahoo Message Number: 117499
OK I am tired of both Norcold and Amish cooling units, Installed an Amish unit 6 years ago after the Norcold quit and now that has failed, so I need to find a Residential Fridge that will fit the hole and keep the 2 drawers under the fridge, Has anyone installed a residential unit and been able kept the 2 drawers. If so what is the make and model number. My coach is an 04 Inspire, but rock solid dependable, still looks and runs great, Thanx

Did this many years ago.
Bob Vinson & Kevin Waite did it in Junction City.

Samsung RF197. 32" w. X 70" t.
Sticks out few inches. We left our drawers in place. Need step stool for highest Refir shelves. Love it.....

I don't think there are any refers with the interior capacity that will fit without losing the two drawers. They are just too tall. Did you consider changing to the Danfoss compressor system? Then you have the benefits of residential with the carcass that fits. About $1200 if they install it or $900 if you do it yourself. Located in Indiana. https://vimeo.com/207702115 Nice people and takes about 3 hours if they do it.

Hi Jerry,
We have emailed before I had the 2004 Inspire 51010. I replaced my nocold with a Samsung without any difficulty. As we drive the batteries and inverter handle the electric load from the Samsung. The engine keeps the batteries fully charged no need to run the generator.

I switched out our old Norcold 1200 with a Fisher Paykal RF 170 with water in the door. In my opinion the FP frig looks more RV like than the Samsung. Cost a little more but but  nothing is to good for my dream home. I got rid of the drawers. One drawer had spices in it so I built a spice rack for them and my other drawer was a junk drawer. For that I but in sound bars for my TVs and pulled out my receiver that wasn't needed and use a basket for my junk dawer where the receiver was. All is good

It is very disappointing to me to see that RV manufactures are still installing the fire hazard Norcold 1200 in their new units.

Shall I assume the residential frig is plugged into a circuit on the inverter?

What kind of challenges are expected with a residential frig vibrating down the highway?

I have a friend that installed a residential unit and ran it on th inverter while on the road with no problem, vibrations going to happen no matter what unit is installed at this point with 2 fridge failures, I will go with the residential unit, a lot of motorhome makers are now installing residential units. I feel I have dodged the fire bullet twice.

We have no issues with the Samsung and travel.
Been on 2 long trips: Alaska & Prince Edward Island / Nova Scotia.
Never had a problem with the Samsung.
Did upgrade to 3000 watt pure sine wave Magnum inverter, added two more 6 volt batteries and have 4 solar panels supplying 560 watts.
Samsung very efficient.

We replaced our Norcold 1200 with the Samsung RF18, which is the newer version of the RF197 (new model is the same box just some tweaks to the unit to correct some minor issues). We left the drawers and love the fridge. You will have to change the power supply to the inverter side of the breaker panel to make it work. All works well and the alternator makes plenty of power to keep the fridge running and the batteries charged going down the road.
I recently helped a friend change out his Norcold 1200, he used the Whirlpool linked below. I believe I would go with the Whirlpool if I was changing today, because I like the side by side configuration with the water and ice in the door.
