Need recomendation for Cummins diesel mechanic.

After a 3 month storage our coach is hard to start, has a miss and lots of smoke. I get a code on our Silverleaf stating a injector fault. I do not want to drive it so I am looking for a recomendation for a mobile engine mechanic. We are located in Sun City West which is in the northwest corner of the greater Phoenix AZ valley.

Try Velocity Truck Center. Freightliner Cummins CAT etc. We have used hem twice now. Excellent service. Not to far from you. Close to Camping World in Tolleson of I-10

FYI. I lost fuel injector in Zion NP Utah. Drove it all the way to Las Vegas. CAT said OK. Just take it easy.

You are in Phoenix, right? Cummins is in "Phoenix" in Avondale. 623-474-2600. Cumimins is also in Tucson near Eric. You could go to Eric if he can't handle it, Cummins is a couple of miles away.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think I am going to have the coach towed to Velocity or Masseys. I am going to make a recon trip and talk with both companies and then decide.

I am thinking that my tow insurance will only pay for a tow to the nearest qualified repair facility. If this is the case then I would be limited to Velocity in Tolleson or Cummins in Avondale. There have been many good reviews about Velocity but nothing regarding service at the Cummins Avondale facility.
Does anyone have experience, good or bad at Cummins in Avondale?

A friend of mine had work done on the DEF system on his coach about 2 years ago at Cummins, Avondale, and was very impressed. He had issues from new, spent big bucks at several different shops trying to get it fixed, and Cummins, Avondale, found the problem.

Most insurance companies have a rule of only towing to the nearest quandlified repair facility, however, they will take your unit to your requested facility for a mileage overcharge. Good Sam does and they also have an up graded policy that allows up to around 100 mile radius.

Just a follow up on my starting problems with our coach. I had the coach taken to Cummins in Avondale, AZ. Since my engine hangs real low in the back it has to go on a flatbed. The problem turned out to be the engine ECM. They replaced the ECM with a remanufactured uniit. We were back on the road the next day. The total Cummins invoice was $2351 net. We belong to the Cummins Power club so we got a 10% discount off the original invoice. Coach Net covered the towing. We were very happy with the service of both the towing company ( BD"AZ towing, Surprise AZ) and Cummins in Avondale AZ. I would recommend both companies.

For some reason CC hung the engine real low on our Intrigue model Suite Escape. I have never seen another pusher coach with the engine hung that low.

Good morning Norm, our engine also is mounted low. Or appears to be. Actually it has a truck pan from the manufacture instead of the RV oil pan. After the first trip to Alaska and had bottomed out, we replaced the pan with the same part number (stamped in) and fabricated a set of coaster wheels under the rig just behind the pan, one inch lower. They have saved the replacement oil pan many times in the last 10 years.

Glad you got off and running, and that you had good service from Cummins:)!

Our 04 Allure, a hybrid like year as it was part 03 and part 04 as far as content. (Heck, NADA does not even show a 2 slide High Cascade Model in 2004 year - but that's clearly what our documentation from CC shows:)!). It has the ISL, and and the composite oil pan. Ours cracked and needed to be replaced about three years ago. We located a steel stamped pan, of the same capacity. And Cummins installed it for us.

Our coach came with a protective skid pad below the oil pan, and it is the lowest point of our coach. Had to learn to raise the coach up a times, to clear things. So yep it does sit down low:)!

We had the composite oil pan and a skid plate. The skid plate is pretty flimsy and I am not sure it was even installed by CC. A small rock got between the skid plate and the oil pan and wore a hole in the pan. We now have a steel pan and the same flimsy skid plate.
Our coach was sold as an 04 but the engine was made in March of 03. It is an ISL400 with the CAPS fuel system.
Our coach is only 38 feet but has a tag axle. No complaints there but I wonder if the geometry of the tag required the engine to be hung so low. There is plenty of room from the top of the engine and piping to the roof of the engine compartment. The engine could have been several inches higher.

Our 2002 Magna 37 with tag has a very low engine mount(CAT C-12) also. Have high centered coach on motor mounts getting up our driveway the first time we got it home. Was scratching my head as the 32 we traded in on the 37 never had any issues. Had to learn quick how to bypass the HWH controller to manipulate the airbags to get us off the mounts.

I've got an 03 Allure 40 foot with tag axle and it, too, has the low engine. From reading through PO documentation, the rig came with a composite pan which had to be replaced several times due to damage. Finally, someone put on a steel pan. The one thing I didn't check before I bought mine was the pan to road clearance. I drove Greyhounds for a decade when I was a younger fellow and we took those things way out in the boonies without a thought of damaging the pan.

I wasn't aware of the low clearance until I was having the oil changed and the mechanic indicated the drain plug was ground down and was creating a problem in getting the bolt out. Since then, I have had heavy duty rollers welded on, I run the 12Rx22.5 to get another fraction of an inch over the 295/80 and whenever the driveway I'm negotiating is the least bit out of kilter, I reach down and add air to the rear and walk it through the transition.
I think CC ran into clearance problems when they started stuffing rear slide, tag axle and the ISL into the 02-04s. If you look in the engine bay, you can see how much they cut out of the frame rail to make clearance for the alternator.....it must be 3-4 inches they cut out.
When I'm at correct ride height my pan is about 7 inches off the tarmack.......YIKES

Well I thought I was alone in having a low hanging engine. It is nice to know I am not alone but on the other hand it is not good news to know there are so many coaches with engine oil pans only 7 inches off the ground.
The rear cross member supporting my engine is usually what hits the ground first. Maybe I will look into some wheels to have installed in that area so they hit first.
