Tag axle brake locks up.

2008 Allure Sunset Bay... my passenger side tag axle intermittently locks the brake when starting out or shortly after while moving at slow speed. I have ruined two tires and damaged a third that I had to have "shaved" to eliminate the flat spots. It has reached a point that I now have the PS mirror tilted so I can see the lug nuts roll when I start moving. I have have had the brake removed, inspected, and adjusted (twice, the last time by Eric Olstrom's shop). I always verify pressure before I move the coach. I am at a loss... I know the brakes apply as a result of a loss in air pressure. Could the ABS valve at the tag be a problem? I don't know of anything else that could affect the pressure at an individual wheel. I am about ready to remove the caliper from that axle... I just don't want to be that radical... yet. Max

Max, have you checked the big angle iron and bolts the wheel is mounted on? A number of tag mounts for that year have have had that problem and come loose There is an article on this in the CCI Website Technical Library.

I can attest to the Tag Axle Frame Bolts coming loose. We had that happened to us and almost lost the whole Tag. All bolts were missing on one side and 2 were missing on the other side. The axle had shifted 20 degrees off center. Ruined 1 tire. The fix was rather easy but if you completely loose the tag it would wreck your coach. I check the tag bolts as a part of my pre-departure walk around.

I have checked the tag axle mounts. When I bought the coach I did have broken and missing bolts but they were replaced and the tag aligned. Since then no problem with bolts and I check them regularly. I know of one more owner of a 2008 Allure Sunset Bay that has had the same issue and is also at a loss for answers.
