Entry Door Stop 2003 Intrigue

Yahoo Message Number: 117869
I purchased a 2003 38 Intrigue First Avenue and overwhelmed at the learning curve. I have had Motor Momes and travel trailers for over 30 years but a newbie on Country Coach.

My Entry Door is very hard to close tightly (you have to slam it to get it done) and there is no stop for wind gust. Was their originally a "catch" or something on the door to hold open and lock in into place on opening?

Thanks for any Help.

We bought our Intrigue 42ft First Avenue new in 2003, and the "learning curve" is lengthy. That said, we admire so many aspects of what Country Coach created in our coach.

We have learned to open the sliding window by the Driver to help getting the front door sealed tightly when closing before travels. The coach is so airtight that this helps. There is no stop on the door to keep it open, but a bungee to the mirror does great. Safe travels. Hope to meet you on the road sometime.

Jeff; you and I have almost the same coach. Perhaps you can answer this. Sometimes When Driving, especially on a particular windy day, I hear a lot of wind noise coming from entrance door…it’s a weird sound, hard to describe. Could it be that it’s not 100% closed, because of the air tightness of these coaches? I can say, that I haven’t consciously kept driver window slid open when closing the entrance door to accommodate this air tight problem. I certainly will remember to do this in the future, and will experiment with noise. Thanks for the tip.

04 Allure here, same door as I believe is being talked about. Make sure the door window weep hole has a cover (If you have weep holes.). And that being said, yeah, we get the wind noise too. Have tried lots of things so far, including:
-Added some extra 1/8th thick insulation in areas that I thought might have been the area of noise
-This was later removed, and two times I'v had the repair facility I was using try to adjust the door. One time the tech suggested I would not want to watch - he was right. They used a combo piece of 2x2 and 4x4 to put into the door opening, then two large burly beastly men - attempted to rebound the upper part of the door in more towards the top. (No truly bend, more of sort of flex.)
-Last effort was to replace the all of the jamb seal with new material
-We do have our door latch adjusted so tight to hold the door in, that it does take a substantial closing to close it. And yes, a window open helps.
-Oh yeah, we also had a positive leak test flow done, where they use the smoke like bomb on the inside, and put positive air pressure into the coach, to look for potential leak areas. The door seal did not leak under that condition.
-And some coaches owner's reported that the noise on their coaches, was eventually tracked down to a windscreen not fully seated, and or the mirrors, and or a door awning. But, not always the same configuration and years era as our coaches.

For us, we seem to notice it the most when the wind direction is coming at an angle from the drivers side towards the passenger side. I speculate that this is causing a slight vacuum draw on the top of the door as the wind wraps around from the windscreen/cap area, and sort of pulls the upper door out just enough to allow the wind noise.

Has been that way for 9 years now, and I've inquired into buying a salvaged door (Door manufacturer no longer builds this door, as I understand it.), and having it installed and painted to match. Certainly doable. But, the tech and the service writer at this place - are not optimistic it would solve the problem. Get the impression the door just does not have enough structure, to hold in tight, and again for us - this seems to be towards the top part of the door.

I'm told that perhaps Eric Oldstrum in Tucson might be able to finesse the door to seal better, but I have not yet talked with him. I will be at Premiere later this year, and have that on our list to review with their tech's for additional input.

Will follow this thread, and see what may have come in new.

Enjoy your coach, it's a great year for CC:)!

Dave we too have experienced a wind noise at speed, and my daring DW would opens the door slightly and slams it after I open my window a bit. Works every time or us. Hope that's the case with yours. Alternatively, weather permitting, we left a roof vent open and that works just as well. We recently put shrouds on the vents when the rain sensor failed to work, so the vents now stay open a lot more. Good luck.

Thanks Jeff. I will give it a shot, and hopefully remember to let you know. Like you, I just added the shrouds to my fantastic fan vents. Beautiful Coach by the way.

My bad. I found your photo at the very bottom of the page. She's a beauty, and how you managed to get 4 basement compartments in a 38 footer is amazing. That's all I got with 4 extra feet.
Safe travels.

Jeff

Jeff, I believe one of those compartments the house battery compartment and the other big one is probably the propane tank. still I have 42-foot Magna and it's about the same so it's pretty impressive.
