Steps repair

Made the mistake of exiting the coach while the steps were still in motion!! So the gear is damaged and needs to be replaced. Has anyone found a place to purchase just the gear? Also can that gear be flipped over?

Richard, first make sure it's not the motor gear. If yours is the Kwikee Series 42, and it probably is, then the answer to both of your questions is no. That is from my experience. I had broken teeth on the end of my gear, probably for the same reason, and the only option was to install the updated design parts except for steps and electronics. Motor was also replaced. The new design was totally different but a better design. A replacement gear like the original design was not available and the bolt pattern and bearing will not allow it to be turned over. After I figured out how I was going to do it the process was about seven hours over a couple of days. Not an easy task at all. There is room to work but if one had a lift in that they could stand up the process would be much easier. Only took about two weeks for all my wounds to heal up. I do have pictures and part numbers should you need them.

Thanks Richard Aquino for your insights. Although not what I was hoping to hear. I have the owners manual, and it is series 42 . I have some difficulty following the "step motor parts key found on page 10. I did get a Tech to lay down and have a look. He could see a plastic gear with the lower side teeth broken off. He thought maybe remove and turn over???

Rich with the 2002 Magna indicated he could get just the gear.

My reference was to the Series 42 step which was used on my 2001 Intrigue. It is not plastic. In 2017 when I talked with Lippert/Kwikee tech support I was told that the old gear for the Series 42 was not available and I had to upgrade to the new design.

Rich with the Magna, do you have a Series 42 and the part number you can share for the gear you were able to order? If only the gear is available then that will help people in the future that have to replace it. I was informed that that was not an option for me.

This is one of the components, there were four part number in total, I had to order to replace everything.

I will try to attach pictures.

Let me clarify: I had already upgraded my series 42 years ago. The gear piece with the teeth of the new upgraded system had become worn for some reason. Just that gear piece is available from Lippert for the new upgraded system. I don't have the part number handy but if you call them they will find it for you. It was around $100 with shipping. If you have not upgraded your system I believe you'll have to buy the entire new upgrade.
