Residential Refer

Yahoo Message Number: 118096
Hello;

Turns out that I need to buy a new refer for my '06 Magna. It is an all-electric coach and had a 22' Amana side by side w/ ice maker. It had nice wood paneling on the face, but I don't need to replace that. Has anyone replaced their refer? I've looked online at Lowe's and they have a number of models that appear to fit, i.e. 35.75" width. I've heard good things about the Samsung. Any thoughts? Does the unit need to go in through a window or will it fit through the door? I'm not to going to tackle it myself because of a bad back, so will be looking at some labor $$$.

Thanks for you=r thoughts,
Dave Glen

I just had the Samsung RF18 installed to replace my Norcold. It fit through the door of my 2005 Inspire.

David,

We've replaced many refrigerators over the years. My first thought being you currently have a residential unit is the depth of the cabinet. Most of the time we use the Samsung because they offer a counter depth unit which are harder to find. So I would check he depth of your current unit and compare with current available units to make your decision.

If you're looking for a shop, we're located in the NW and would am very experienced at changing out refrigerators!

David, it will have to go through the window, no problem. Another option is the Fisher & Paykel. Very nice but a little pricey, fits nice. Olstrom out in Tucson an awesome installation, like it never happened. 520-624-2024

I have a Samsung as do two of my friends. We all have a problem with water in the left side crisper because of ice build up. My research indicates that this is a known problem and no fix.

There is a relatively simple fix you can perform for the water under the crisper tray problem. Just Google "samsung water under crisper" and you'll get hits for various videos showing how to add a wire that keeps the drain hole from freezing over. My wife did it on our RF18 and that solved the problem for us.

I just replaced the norcold with a Samsung RF18 great fit, nice installation, chose to remove the 2 drawers under the fridge in order to not make it to tall for my sweetie. Also switched CB to run on inverter, had a lot of help from this group, great guys, do not be afraid to ask for help.

Judy, I have a Samsung 197ACRS and had the water problem and there is a fix, at least my issue with water in the crisper is corrected.
If you have the same model, I can talk to you about the solution.

I did find a couple of fixes, one is a bigger attachment to the coil which works for some and not for others. Would like to hear your solution. At the moment I'm acting as nurse Ratchet to a friend who just had knee replacement so won't be able to work on it for several days.

We haven't had this problem, and I'm interested in whether or not one uses the ice maker has anything to do with it happening. We don't use the ice maker due to concern as to the quality of the water. And we drink mostly wine and beer rather than a gin and tonic, for example, so don't really need ice. Thanks. A smiley face would exist here if I knew how to find it and put it here.

This particular problem isn't related to the ice maker, it's a defroster drain problem. Samsung supposedly fixed it in newer fridges by basically extending their heating element further into the drain hole, but our RF18 manufactured Aug. 2018 still needed the fix.

Mary - Same with us. RF18, and we have the water off to fridge, and Ice Maker off on the fridge controls. We removed the ice catch bucket, and slide two Ice Trays in this locations, with our Kitchen Drinking Water extra filtered water. We find it does three things for us: 1) Better ice cubes; 2) Less energy usage when boon docking; 3) A bit more space for freezing other items:)!

All,
And I do recall reading problems about the RF18's predecessor having the problems being addressed in this thread. But we've had no problem with our RF18 (Yet:)!), and wonder if others with RF18's have had the same problems being discussed. (If I missed this as I skimmed the thread earlier today on my phone - sorry!).

Best to all,
Smitty
