Aluminum angle

I had an aluminum angle come loose off the bottom back off my big slide. It looks like it was just glued on with a black rubbery glue. The front one also has a screw on on the bottom outside angle. If I could get this back one glued I could also add a screw. Does anyone know what type of glue to use to hold this aluminum angle to the aluminum slide.

Dave you may have more problems than that falling off. You could have a leak in you slide between the inner and outer wall. Check that out, does the outer wall feel spongy? Get a tube of Sika-Flex and the use pop rivets to hold it also. Just be sure you do not have a leak. Voice of experience here, I had a leak on top of slide to repair before I put mine back on.

We've had all of our angle trim n the slides reattached. Another good product is 3M's 5200 'Fast Curing'.

Our large slides have three pop rivets now (When I first did them, I used the 5200 and stainless steel screws. Which were holding up well after three years of usage. But had them swapped out for pop rivets when I had the rear slides done.) in three places. The rear are held by two pop rivets and the shop used Silka Flex.

I keep a yearly fresh bead of clear seal caulking along the top edge on the side slide walls, to shed water over/off the angle. (The adhesives look to be holding well, but like to keep the water from having a penetration between the angle and the side wall - thus the bead of caulking.)

One other owner who used to post here (Was it Dallas?), also found some 3M Colored Tape that matched his color scheme well. He out a strip of that over the leading edge on the sidewall as additional insurance. (We can't find tape that matches our paint close enough. And seem to be doing well without it.)

On the top of the slides, are other joints that thru time can leak. We've kept these caulked where needed, as well as large steps of 2" wide Eterna Bond over the joints. (Not seen from the ground, so not worried about appearances.)

We've been lucky, no leaking ever took place. Knocking on wood!

I did the large slides about two years before the small bedroom slide (We have 2 slides on our coach.) because I had popped one of the large slides angle pieces loose due to a learning curve on our coach. 115 or so outside when we pulled into a Reno campground with the generator running and both 15K Penguin II's running on high. I did not open a window, and as I tried to open the front slide, the vacuum made the slide get a bit out of kilter. That stress on the slide, was enough to pop one of the angle pieces loose. Gorilla taped it back into place for the remainder of the trip. Then did the drilling and SS Screws with 3M the were back home. And yes, we now leave a window or door open when in/out the slides:)! (And the slide self corrected, with the window open. Power Gear Electric slides on both of ours.)

Best to you and all, have fun, be safe,
Smitty

I have the bottoms come loose on both the drivers and passenger slide. All were reattached with screws. I just assumed it was s manufacturing weak point. I have no evidence of water damage.

Smitty, When you talk about all the work you've done on the top of your slide, I have a question, do you have slide toppers? I do, and it seems that without getting up there and looking, there's no good access to the front seam or the other areas you spoke of using tape on. Thanks

Fair and spot on question. Before I retired, I was the Stunt Double for Plastic Man... So I can reach into tight areas with ease.... NOPE! ( - :)! ).

We do have slide toppers, and the Eterna Bond went onto the big slide when we replaced ours original topper.

We have the combo Carefree Omega II (With the " ? " looking arms.) awning topper. When we bought the coach, I removed the material and had a sailmaker resew, because the thread used did not hold up well to UV. Cleaned it well, and waterproofed it, and it held up well until 2016 when it started showing signs of distress.

Went with Stone Vos, and pleased with the quality of their materials and workmanship.

The compound I used to adhere an aluminum storage compartment door to the frame work is a GE product I believe. It is a special order item from Amazon and is a two part epoxy that comes in one special tube. You also need a special caulking gun that mixes the two components together. When done I highly recommend drilling a hole in the lower bottom of each slide channel about an inch from the ends to help any moisture to escape. You may have to google the compound, aluminum to aluminum adhesive. Hope this helps and good luck!

Dave, we will get in late Monday as we are in Storm Lake IA. My wife's father passed away last week and today is the funeral. It will be a long day tomorrow getting there. We will have a booth for our LED's and our Top Coat F11 stop by and say hello.

Well If you are there and have more time you might want to go over to the north unit Theodore Roosevelt park. Many have been down to the south unit in Medora (nice tourist trap). Few ever go or know of the north unit (remote).
