LOL! The old 'If it ain't broke, don't touch!' school of thought.
Made me chuckle, as I find too often when I'm doing supposedly 'preventative exercise' of equipment - it turns into 'OH HECK - FIX ME NOW!'...
On electronics though, especially electronics with 'contact' like materials needing to work well with each other to do whatever it is it's doing. Over time gunk/crud (Techie Talk!) can build up, and reduce or inhibit the flow of the electrical juices... (And as mentioned in the other thread, especially in areas of higher dampness/humidity.) So for mechanical like switches, a periodic exercising, and if readily available preventative cleaning and protection - is probably a wise thing to do.
I admit, I do not exercise mine deliberately (I've shared the time that I bumped it leaning into the access area to get fan belts number. And then much later when i went to fo start the coach for exercise, that ISL would turnover well, but not fire. Had Coach Net on the way - before I remembered leaning in awhile back, and went and found I had bumped it into the off position...). I do yearly cleaning of every ground connection I can find, starter wire feeds, etc., etc. And since we keep our coach usually fired up and ready to go electricity wise 7/24 (Samsung Fridge being fed power and always on.) - I now do exercise the Salesman and Chassis switches on an every three month schedule. (Waiting for the day, when the LP Detector fails to stop beeping~!).
I also use Dielectric Grease where appropriate, and on more sensitive contacts that can not handle the ever so slight added resistance - spray DioxIT Gold Spray on the contacts.
Best to all, have fun, be safe,
Smitty
