2007 CC Affinity water damage from water entry PS & Lav windows

Hello CCF,

I am a new owner of an Affinity #6737. It has damage from water entry from the fwd passenger side window as well as the lav window. The exterior panels have been removed to survey and repair the damage. I bought the coach at an auction so the exact history is unknown to me. I was told by the shop that removed the panels that they had the coach about a year. They were waiting on insurance for the previous owners "Doug Hill". I have no way to contact them to find out what they saw in the outside to suspect water entry. I guess is was fiberglass delamination.?? I would love to hear from them for previous history as well as to return if they want a lot of personal items of value left in coach. I suspect they live in CA and the coach was at OMC in Eugene, OR when the insurance company bought it. They didn't seem to get the chance to clear it out of valuables. I bought it as is at auction.

Has anyone else here experienced this on their coach? Did you see water inside? Outside panel delamination? I have a bid from OMC on its repair. The coach is at Premier RV right now to get a second opinion and get a full PDI. But in my case PDI stands for POST DELIVERY INSPECTION. I will use the inspection as a punch-list etc to knock off the list one at a time. Obviously the side damage will be done and inspect all possible water entry points everywhere will be done. Both are of course the gold standard in CC experience for us in the NW and of course the original factory location for one.

I hear that the Affinity/Lexa (flush) windows are more expensive and more difficult to install and subsequently more difficult to install or inspect compared to Magna and other CC windows. I believe only one window (driver side) has the fogging issue. The other two problem windows leaked from install seals? Please others beware and inspect!! I knew of the issue going in of course and I accept the problem. I can't imagine paying $700K+ new or $200+ used for these and not knowing of the issue in the walls!
If anyone has history on this RV specifically or what you can see from outside to "find" this issue please speak up. There is one area in the slide that the wallpaper is delaminating. Is that all you can see? I will keep this forum updated on the repair and what I find to inform all the others what to look for.

You can also hear about and see the coach on youTube on both Brian's RV Videos and RVing with Andrew Steele's channels. It's the auction RV. BTW Brian is OK with me winning the coach. He is doing the PDI with Premier RV. I did not bid in the first auction as you can watch on his videos as I didn't want to compete with him. I only bid when it was re-listed at the second auction. (the bidder from WA.)  :)

It's not all bad. All the other sides are beautiful and inside it's gorgeous. I know there will be some repairs on the inside due to the water but afterwards my family will have a "new" coach.

Hi Philip:

Congratulations on the new to you coach.  I'm of the opinion that Country Coach motorhomes are the best built coaches excluding the million(s) dollar Newell and Prevost bus shells for the money.  While the retail prices of the CC were high, most original owners got a 25-35% discount off retail.  Some of us, like myself waited several more years to find that model meeting our needs at about 25% of retail but still in perfect condition.

Your purchase, IMHO is a good deal.  The price point will allow you to get it repaired and back on the road still under NADA used retail.  If it was not a CC then I would not consider the level of effort required to restore this unit back to near new.

Your choice in vendor and expertise with that team is the best I know for that region.

I wish you the very best in restoration and please keep us posted on progress.  I do watch Brian's videos also.

Thanks for words of encouragement. I know that if spending $750K on a new coach was the same as me spending $150K. Maybe I would but I can’t. I feel that if someone that spent more initially would fix their coach because of value than buying under market and fixing is ok too. Plus I was encouraged that two very well known CC experts bid on this coach at first auction. They felt it was worth it too. I wasn’t the only one that saw a diamond in the rough.

I will keep forum updated on progress.

Thank god I read this as I am in the process of buying one with exterior side wall wrinkles under the lav window and the front PS window has moisture on the inside and I believe exterior side wall wrinkles under it too. Although I need to investigate further

Update:

Previous owner called me last week after hearing through the CC grapevine that the owner of his old coach had some questions. I was able to talk with DH and he was very informative on the condition of the coach etc. The needed coach repairs have not been completed as of today. Both OMC and Premier RV in OR had a backlog of work until this week. I will have the coach sidewall work started next week. I am also needing a full service on the engine, transmission and generator to reset filters and fluids with my ownership. If anyone has recently accomplished this in the NW and or elsewhere and can share the experience and costs that would be helpful.

I was quoted $1200 for a Cummings 600ISX annual service. $950 for the Allison 4000 service and $350 for the 12.5K and Air Dryer service for a total of approximately $3500. Is this in range of your experiences?

Well I have received several bids with a large spread and cost difference depending if old panels could be re-used or not since it has Full Body Paint (FBP).

I will quote specifics once I decide on a shop and the work is complete.

1. $11,000 total outside repair and repaint with new panels. Shop in Tuscon, AZ
2. $6,000 soft bid on similar repair but with less panels overall to repair if old painted panels can be reused. More if not. Shop in Mesa, AZ
3. $55,000 firm detailed bid to repair and repaint with new panels. NW, OR
4. $28,500 firm and detailed bid to repair and repaint with new panels. Fife, WA
5. $37,100 firm and detailed bid to repair and repaint with new panels. NW, OR

6. $18,500 firm and very detailed multi process for prep and re-paint and re-seal entire coach the same or totally new paint scheme for 45' coach with four slides. Bremen, IN Same shop that paints new Entegra RV's. This last bid is only for paint and no repairs. I've included it to show what it is to paint an entire coach nose to tail with 4 slides of a 45' RV or Bus. Well respected company on this and other CC forums. In comparison some of the above bids where similar cost just to repaint the area between the slides and the area in front of fwd slide and passenger side window and front door. At most that would be 1/4 of the area of a coach and yet it costs the same as painting the entire coach with all new colors and scheme. So if it was me and I had to pay $18K for a paint job I would rather get the entire coach painted with all new 2021 styles or colors etc than matching old style and colors etc.

Hope this helps anyone else out there facing the same issues. In hindsight with what I know now. The number one issue is that water entry issues causing damage must be resolved. If water issues are resolved than the repairs to outside fiberglass panels are optional. It is really a cosmetic issue. Of course these are large expensive machines and ideally we would all want our coaches to be perfect and fixed perfectly every time there is a blemish or issue.

I have included three videos from AZ EXPERT, youTuber, on this exact repair showing a poor repair and correct repair. Note that if the original shop fixed the actual issue of the water leak areas than the total wall repair would have been optional. But even if you decide to fix leak and outside delamination then if the panels are not damaged they can be reused saving both time and money.

The coach is being repaired in Tucson, AZ and it went into the paint booth today. It should be complete by next week. I will post full writeup and comments soon as complete.
