I have never seen a 1996 or 1997 Country Coach Concept for sale. Does anyone on this forum own one? I don't remember seeing a 1993 either. Maybe there are none.

Jim -

Last week we were at the Wine Country RV Park in Paso Robles, CA and across from our site was a '96 CC Concept.
I spoke with the owner and he indicated that he was going to be be selling it as he wanted to downsize to a Class C. I have his contact information and if you would like it, please contact me off line.
It appeared to be in very good condition and he said it had always been stored inside.

Does anyone on this forum own a 1997 CC Concept? Does anyone know if CC made a 1997 45' Concept with a Detroit Series 60 Engine or did they all have an 8V92?

ALL 45 FOOT CONCEPTS ARE 60 SERIES, JUST LIKE PREVOST WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS OF EARLY PREVOST.THE 60 IS A LONGER MOTOR THAN AN 8V

The reason I asked the question is I'm interested in 1997 Concept that is for sale. This is the first '97 I have ever seen on the market and the first I have ever heard about. NADA lists one '97 Concept, it is 45' and has an 8V92. I don't rely on NADA to always be correct. It is just that I have never heard of a '96 or '97 Concept. Thought maybe CC didn't make any those years. I know they made them in '98 and '99. They all had Series 60 engines.

HOW MUCH? I HAVE A COUPLE FRIENDS THAT BOUGHT 45 CONCEPTS.
THEY HAVE HAD TENS OF THOUSANDS DOLLARS OF PROBLEMS. THE BAD PART IS THEY CAN'T FIND A BUYER TO GET OUT OF THERE MISERY. YOU WILL DO BETTER WITH A PREVOST, AND THANK ME. I KNOW OF SEVERAL UNDER 200 GRAND IN THAT YEAR RANGE. BUYER BEWARE?

They are asking $199K but that is negotiable. $100K is more in line with todays market.
Are you talking about 1997 or are they '98/'99. I think 1998 was the first year CC produced a unit with the Series 60 engine. You are the first person I've conversed with that said bad things about a CC Concept. IMO, they were the very finest production line MHs built. I have owned two but they were mid '90 coaches. I know absolute nothing about Concepts with the Series 60 engine. I wonder if that was the problem. Also, maybe when they switched to 45'. I would like to hear from anyone that has a 40' or 45' with the series 60 engine. There is one 1998 40' that has been for sale a long, long time. They are asking too much for my pocket book.

WANT AND REALISTIC ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
PRE 60 SERIES CONCEPTS ARE FINE. THE 6V92 A BIT UNDERPOWERED IN A 40, BUT YOU CAN SPEND SOME MONEY AND BUMP UP THE HP FOR NOT A LOT OF MONEY.
FOR 199 YOU CAN BUY A 2000 PREVOST, WHICH IS STILL IN BUSINESS.

I agree. I had a 40' Concept with the 6V92 and then one with the 8V92. No comparison between the two.
Price wise, I was thinking around $80K/$90K for a 40'/45' with the Series 60 engine. Based on what I heard here, I am having doubts about the reliability of the Concept with the series 60 engine. I'm a bit surprised to here bad things about them since Bob Lee was still in charge of CC up to 1999.

I recently saw a 40' 98 for sale listed at $119,000 in Calif. by a broker named Bennett. It sold quickly, don't know how much. barrie Boas 94 Concept 5111

You are correct, a 36' 40' Concept on a Gillig was one of the best MH built. A 45' on a Country frame with a 60 series is a different story.
They stopped the 40 Concept and 40 Prevost at the same time and went 45' only, 98-99 may be correct.
In 89 the LEES wanted a coach priced less than a Prevost and more than an LTD. They built 3 National buses, 3 Eagle buses and a few 36' and 40' Concepts which won the vote because the shell structure was square and cheaper to build.
The National and Eagle required a thousand more hours to build, or so the story goes.

I would like to have some first hand info on Concepts with the series 60 engine. It is difficult for me to believe that CC, under Bob Lee's ownership, would build a lemon. I know they stopped producing the Concept in 1999 and then came out with the Lexa. I don't think that move was Lee's doing.

Bryce,

Thanks. I've been looking at that coach. In fact, I talked to someone at the dealership. It is on consignment. The photos look really good but they can be deceiving. I'm close to making an offer but I would have to inspect it first.

There is a 97 in San Diego, forgot the web site, with 13,000 miles.
The reason for the low miles is it sat at ORA in Indio for years because it would never run and the owner tried to trade it in on anything with no takers. I heard he passed away and not sure who owns it.
Buy a Concept on a GILLIG WITH AN 8V AND ENJOY IT.

Does anyone on this forum own a Country Coach Concept that is powered by a Detroit Series 60 engine? I'm interested in one but I am not familiar with this engine.

I think a lot of Prevost's after 95 or 96
are powered by the Detroit series 60 engine. Barrie Boas 94 Concept 5111, Detroit 8V92TA 450 HP, the predecesor to the series 60.

I have the DD 40 series and am very impressed. The DD dealer in Coburg Ore. has a new DD 60 setting on the floor for sale. Very good looking unit. If everything is right on it and it is running as it should, I think you will be impressed, but all Diesels take about 50,000 to brake in and run as they should. I looked at the DD 60 and thought I would not mind having that engine. But now our 40 is right, I'm very happy with the power and I tow a 22' enclosed trailer with Jeep and quads inside. Still very happy. Running barefoot is amazing. Can't hardly keep it down to speed limit, it really wants to go. Would expect the same kind of performance out of the 60. International makes both the 40 and the 60 engine and Detroit Diesel sells them. International makes good engines for the most part.

I'm interested in adding a salon/galley slide on a CC Concept. Has anyone done this or knows a company that can do the job? I would be interested in comments about this project.

A few years ago I inquired about adding a slide to my sob. There was a firm in the Phoenix area that does this (5 years ago). I decided against it as they were going to use 2x4's around the outer edges of the slide. I didn't think that was sufficient strength and it obviously wasn't engineered. Instead I bought my current coach (Country Coach Allure) and lived happily ever after.
