2006 Magna 630

We just bought a used 2006 Magna 630 at the FMCA Rally in Perry, GA.  This is our first Class A.  After a really quick run through of the Coach we were sent on our way home.  We ran the generator on the trip home in order to keep the fridge running.  We arrived home 3.5 hours later and parked in our driveway.  Our Silverleaf Total Home Control panel would not come on so we could not turn the generator off.  Had to open the front end and turn it off at the generator.  We plugged in to a 50 amp line at home and unpacked (using steps that wouldn’t come out all the way).  Five days later, some of the lights in the Coach would not work, the slides controls would not turn on with the key, the dashboard lights would not come on when you turned the key and the engine would not start.  Apparently we have dead batteries.  Anyone know why the batteries would die when we were either running the generator or were plugged into shore power?

While I sold my wonderful Allure ten year ago, but still am this forum moderator. I usually to reply to technical questions anymore.  I am sure you will get some timely and accurate help.

1.  You say you are plugged into 50A circuit (presume in your home).  Does this circuit have two "hot" legs each with 120V to Neutral and 240V BETWEEN the hot legs.  A couch can be fed with a 30A circuit for a total of 30A (120V), OR  a 50A circuit which is really 2 50A 120V circuits for a total of 100A -- 3.333 times the power.  Just a thought.

2.  One of the switches by most entry door is, I believe, officially called the Salesman switch.  When that is (accidently) switched off, there is no (or very little) power to the coach.

3.  When driving (running the engine) both house batteries and engine batteries are couple automatically together to charge both banks.  hmmmm,  Bad alternator on engine?

Thanks for answering.  I’ll have my husband check those things.

To add to Herb's (Herb - We just sold our 04 Allure after 10 great years, and are in an 07 Magna now. We do like the Magna, but we both agree the Allure was such a nice and safe and KISS coach, in comparison:)! No regrets, but as I said in another forum, the Allure after 10 years was like a comfortable well warn pair of shoes:)!).

When you are plugged into to shore power, and after you confirm the Salesman Switch Herb mentioned is turned on. Look to see if Total Coach Care is back up and running for you. And then work your way over to the Inverter, and see if it reflects Pass Through and that the Charge is charging. (If charging for awhile now, should be in Float mode.) It could be as simple as the Charger function was not turned on. (Arrow down to Charge is highlighted, scroll over and use the up/down button until you see the Charger is On, not OFF:)!).

If it is on, then time to get a multimeter out and check the House Battery voltage, as well as the Chassis Battery voltage.

If Total Coach System is not activating for you, then that would probably be the next thing to check. Get a stand alone charger onto the house batteries and get them charged back up, as well as the Chassis too and or next. Look for fuses that may have been tripped on the Total Coach System. And if the stand alone panel is not working, try going in from the Dash area Silverleaf display too.

Give us an update on what you are seeing, and that might trigger some more help.

And take your time learning the Magna. They're worthy of some catch-up maintenance if needed!! IMO they're still ver much a viable great quality and stylish coach!!! And as you do make it 'your coach' ahead - feel some comfort as you hope the local economy:)!
