Onan Coach Command Horizontal Lines on touch screed display

If you have the Onan Coach Command in your motorhome and the display is covered in horizontal lines that block your ability to read the screens there is a fix for those displays. We just repaired two displays on a 2003 Country Coach Lexa. The repair requires replacing the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and new LCD's are available. Here are the steps.
First, remove the touch screen display from your motorhome. There are one or two connectors on the back to easily remove and eight small 1/4 inch nuts.

Remove the two screws that attach the back cover and remove cover.

There are two ribbon cables that have to be disconnected. The white plastic connector has a cap that pulls up carefully to release the ribbon cables. The plastic connector top only rises 1/8 inch or less so be careful not to pry up and break it. With the cap lifted carefully remove the ribbon cables.

There is one more connector that in located on the side and has two wires attached to it. It is again easy to remove. These two wires provide power to the fluorescent back light.
Remove two phillips screws at corners of the circuit board and remove the top circuit board. Place the circuit board on cardboard or paper. This now gives you access to the LCD display. There are small hex nut stands at all four corners of the LCD display. Remove them and set a side. The LCD display is ready to remove. It may be slightly stuck to the display bezel so gently try to pull one corner of the LCD display circuit board up. Work with different corners till one lifts and the rest will free up and you can remove the LCD board.

Brand new LCD displays are available from Davan Display Solutions, 9401 S Innovation Drive, Suite 465, Daleville, Indiana, Phone 800 764-1329. The part number is DMF-50840NB-FW and the cost is $138 plus shipping.

To install the new LCD is just the reverse of the removal. The only issue is at startup when you have installed the repaired touch screen display the contrast will be way out of whack. To adjust the contrast to normal you have to use a flashlight and press the "Settings" on the Main Coach Command Screen. Then you need to press the "Display" touch cell. See your operator manual if you can't see it. There is a "Minus" and "Plus" touch cell. Press the minus touch cell many times to bring down the contrast and the screens will all become visible.

I don't know how many Onan Coach Command's are out there. My friend with the Lexa was going to spend many thousands of dollars to replace the system but we were able to find out that the problem was with the LCD display, its a common problem, and replaced both for just a couple of hundred dollars. Hope this helps.
