Step cover repair

The step cover on my 2000 Intrigue slides opens or (covers the steps) but then does not retract so to allow acess to the steps. The only way is to use a prybar to retract it to get out of the coach.

I'm thinking the switch or motor? I'm not sure.

Has anyone experienced this problem and know how to fix it? because I have no idea where or how to get access to the moving parts to fix it.

thank you.....Any help would be appreciated.

The operating mechanism is in the compartment on the driver's side, forward of the wheel, mounted on the overhead. Sounds like motor or stripped gear or both.

Thanks Don for the quick reply. I look there and see if I can find the problem. Do you know of a reputable supplier for parts?

I would check with Kevin Waite. Kevin is a former CC tech that has his own business in Junction City.

I fixed the same problem on my 95 Magna 5280.

Originally it would respond to a tap with a hammer or wrench on the Actuator Bar hung from the ceiling of the Front Driver Side Bay.  The step cover would perform well for about six months at a time.

10 years later, the Hammer effect was not effective.  The limit switches inside the actuator were the items failing.  They controlled the stopping point for the cover fore and aft.

I cut the wires to the limit switches releasing their hold on the slider.  Then I wired around them and now rely on my thumb to know when to stop holding the switch.

Motor wire: ........... (CC) Country Coach wires

RED WIRE ------------- BLUE WIRE & YELLOW WIRE

BLACK WIRE ------------ BLACK WIRE & RED WIRE
or
YELLOW WIRE
