2004 Magna Surge Guard 40250 not transferring power

Looking for some help in determining if Surge Guard 40250 mounted in electrical bay on 2004 Magna is bad and needs to be replaced - dealer is quoting $900+ cost on new unit and I would really like to know current unit is actually bad.
Have not had any previous issues with power transfer on either shore power or generator - On a recent trip, dry camping first night, fired up gen-set and switch did not transfer.  Second night out was at campground and hooked up the 50 amp shore cord and again no power transfer.  Verified presents of power with hot stick - did not read voltage though. In an effort not to ruin a 4 day stay at this site, wired around the Surge Guard and had no issues other than lack of visibility of some diagnostics in SilverLeaf.  Back home now and looking for help trouble shooting this to point of knowing if a replacement is necessary.  It looks like the 40250 is no longer made and the 40350 RVC is current model.

My friend had the same exact issue on his Foretravel. He ended up buying a new transfer switch. $900.
