Awning

Hello Amigos! Question, I have a 2002 36" Intrigue that had the original "zip Dee awning in front of the entry door heading back 21'. My question is: Has anyone converted to an electric awning replacement from the same location? If so, have you encountered any problems with regard to structural integrity of the side just below the "top cap"(roof)? The awning installer does not recommend this stating he has seen 3 C.C.'s that pulled the fiberglass adjacent to the top cap because of force of wind coming off the windshield.
If I move it behind the entry side window, there will be no protection/shade over the front entrance door.
thank you
Papa Benz

Our 2002 Intrigue 36' came with a powered Girard awning that starts at the front edge of the front door and goes 20 or so feet down the passenger side of the coach. I cannot however attest to how the automatic awning is attached to the side of the coach.

Just a quick thought. I have a mechanical wind out awning over the entry door, which slides back and forth to allow coverage over the front of the door while parked, then for traveling the awning can be slide back to remove it from the air flow and park it. Does yours currently have the same feature?
The awning is affixed to the sidewall panel, behind the sidewall is a large plate which provide secure fixing for the awning.
