2000 Magna EB Level Selection Switch

I recently acquired a 2000 CC Magna. The previous owner replaced a few of the switches on the left driver control panel, including the engine brake level selection switch. The switch labeling says low/med/high (if I recall correctly), but it's a momentary switch, so doesn't lock into any of those positions. Shouldn't this be a latching switch?

He included a few spares, including a latching one, that I'm tempted to swap out. Regardless, the switch needs to be looked at, because it seems to be wired incorrectly - down (low) is much stronger than up (high), so I'll be messing with it later this week.

I also have the same year and model as you and the switch on mine is also a momentary switch and when I try to get it to give me a lesser braking affect is just stops the braking effect altogether. Not very useful at all. My CC is powered by a Cat 350hp with a 6 speed Allison transmission. The main switch is marked "Jake Brake" but the engine does not seem to change sound with I turn this switch on but the transmission does shift down a gear which helps slow the coach a bit. Not really a Jake brake in my opinion.

The lo/med/hi switch is a 3 position switch and not a momentary switch.  I might have a problem with my wiring as the low position doesn't appear to do anything.  The med and hi position do activate the jake brake properly.

I'm going to swap it out to the latching and see how it does. Hopefully that gives me the ability to actually know where it's at rather than having to find a grade and fidget with it.

Buff - Wouldn't your 350hp have an exhaust brake, not an engine brake? It does seem to work well on our 385hp Cat C10.

The writing above the switch says Jake Brake. Maybe your right though. But the switch to the right of that says high, med and low. You can press that switch down but the braking effect stops at that point. Let go the switch and the braking effect returns. I am not sure why it says three positions because it isn't. O well.
Still can't get the two windshields to stay in as well. It is back in the repair shop again. Never had any problems with my former Fleetwood Bounder. Should of kept it.

Thanks for your thoughts on the mater.

I pulled the momentary switch out, flipped it around, and fixed one of the leads on it that was loose. Now working great.

After spending more time with it, I found it was still wasn't working as expected. It would change back to medium at each restart, and seemingly at random.

I pulled the schematics that came with the rig and found it had a part number for a latching switch, that is still in production! Ordered and installed it and after a 700+ mile trip with several rest stops and a couple overnight parks this weekend, am extremely happy to report it's working as expected, every time I engage it.
