Thinking of replacing refrigerator

2002 Intrigue, 36-foot, #11386. We currently have the original Dometic RM1272 propane/electric side-by-side refrigerator which has been rebuilt with the Amish cooling system. Cooling-wise, it works great. But the freezer door seal allows air seepage which results in great buildups of ice especially along the very top edge of the freezer. We were told that you couldn't replace the door seal, you had to replace the whole door, but the doors are unavailable. We did find a seal kit for that model and had the seals replaced by an RV service center recommended by Dometic. The freezer door seal leak is now worse than ever as far as ice buildup.

So ... while still looking for a new door, we have begun inquiring about reluctantly replacing the Dometic propane refrigerator with a residential AC refrigerator. We are reluctant to do that because we are heavy dry-campers and are concerned about power usage even though we have 900 amp-hours of house batteries and 500 watts of solar. We also did not want to lose the drawers and storage space below our current refrigerator which I understand is what would happen with a taller domestic household refrigerator.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from any of you who have gone with the household refrigerator ... want to have freezer and refrigerator side-by-side, not the freezer in a drawer below. What make and model? What kind of daily amp-hour power consumption? What kind of cabinetry modifications?
Thanks for any help or comments, Steve

They have made some great advances with 12 volt frigs and they have various sizes. I have considered going that way when my frig dies.

I have the same RM1272 in my 2002 intrigue.  I ended up converting to 12V using the amish kit.  I wanted a  new fridge, but nothing fit the hole well.  Mine is in the slide and a standard residential unit is too tall.  Units that are short enough are way too narrow.  Of course, none of this helps you with your door seal.
