Removing Kwikee steps for repair

Hello,  I recently purchased a 2004 Country Coach Intrigue and hear grinding when the steps go in/out.  I would like to remove the assembly and clean the slides before adding lube.  Does anyone have experience removing the step assemblies?  Or maybe a method to really get them clean without removing them?  I guess one advantage of removing it would be if the slides are too far gone it would be easier to replace the slides.

Thanks in advance.

I learned from another CC'er to use spray brake cleaner to clean the slides of the steps and then use spray motorcycle chain lube for lubrication.  I use this technique about once a year.  I also use the same method to clean and lubricate my battery slides.

You can clean the entire assembly without removing them. Like Pfhays said, brake cleaner. If you really want to clean them, remove the metal plate on the underside and that will give you full access to all areas of the steps. You can also operate the pin switch from underneath and see where the noise or binding is occurring. Before crawling underneath, make sure you are in travel mode so the system won't adjust itself while you're underneath it.

Thanks for the input.  I cleaned them again and applied dry lube and it seems much better.  The steps initially started acting strangely going in and out in a dance routine but eventually resumed expected behavior.  I plan to upgrade the motor and controller since this is a model 42 and basically has no support anymore.

Thanks again for the input.

Hi if your step moves in and out independently of the door being opened/closed check the "ball" contacts on the door and door frame and adjust/clean to ensure proper engagement. We had an issue with step deploying while driving, temp fix was to put some tin foil on the contacts until I could adjust it.
