Black smoke; was Dust Storm

I don't remember what year your coach is, but if your engine is a "mechanical" Cummins, I understand that the smoke (which is unburned fuel) results from "over-accelerating." In other words, you should only press on the accelerator just enough to accelerate. Because the engine can only accelerate that heavy coach so well ... and pushing the pedal past a certain point won't help do anything but waste fuel.

Dick, thanks for your observation but nope, my acceleration methods are not the problem. Actually I am on the light footed side, I don't see any need to accelerate fast to get up and running ahead of the other guy. Mine is the ISC and any acceleration from stop or to get power when it is needed results in the black smoke issue. All the Cummins centers I have visited agree there is a problem when I show up at their door but after a couple of days of troubleshooting, changing parts..turbos, CACs etc., they then say "well, they all smoke some." But, that's not true on the electronic engines, they aren't supposed to smoke, you are correct about the older non- electronic engines. I've driven other coaches off dealers lot using exact same acceleration techniques that I use on my own coach, and see not one whiff of black smoke on same engine that my coach has.
That tells me it is not my driving habits which is calling the problem, there is a problem and I hope that the local Cummins dealer in Coburg can find it, they probably see more Cummins engines in motorhomes than any other dealer in the US.
