Slide Seals

Has anyone been having problems with the rubber slide seals? We just noticed that one of ours seems to be unattached - when the bedroom slide is moving out, the seal sort of "rolls over".

Another friend with an Intrigue just called us today and reported that the seal on the bottom of one of his slides had apparently broke loose and was not anywhere near where it should be.

Is this some sort of CC problem, or are our occurences unusual? Is this part of the reason CC only has a one year warranty?

I have the same problem. If you look at the seals, you will see that there is a channnel in the seal that probably had some metal "fingers" in it that grabbed hold of a small lip on the cutout for the slide. These fingers have rusted to the point that they don't hold anything and the gasket then rolls in and out. At the Tucson rally, I wanted CC to replace the seals but I was told there is a new style they are using now and they didn't have any there. There is also some special tool that is used for replacement. They did say that any CC repair facility can replace the seals. SOOoooo, while we are in OR this summer, we will be at the factory having them replaced. I understand that the new seals are white and not black.
I don't think the problem has anything to do with CC. What they used was the best available at the time for the application. If you think these seals are bad, you should have seen those on the coach I got rid of.

If you notice, the new coaches have a new style seal for the slide.

BTW, beginning with the '03 model year, the warranty was incerased to 2 years.

Don,

I think part of the problem with the seals is that water runs down they and follows the seals down esp from the a/c units and the water collects around the seals.
I think I am going to but some edge guard above the slide outs and above the windows to carry the water away from the slide outs and windows. Camping World has this edge guard.
When it rains their is enough wash off to Carry the water away but when the a/c's run there is not much flow so the water follows the slide out seals and seems to stay on the bottom seal.
On the newer coaches CC has internal drips for the a/c's which they should retro fit on all coaches, but its not available.

We have had the slide seal problem. I think it all started when HWH replaced the defective hydraulic hoses. (That's another story.

you all had the defective hoses?) I think they may have damaged the seal. It leaked after they got done.
The front galley slide seal broke loose and started rolling around at about 2 years old. We had to go to Oregon to have the electrolysis problem fixed at the factory and they replaced the seal while they were replacing the slide trim. (That's another story. Have you all

had the electrolysis problem?)

Well anyway we got the trim strips replaced, got a new seal installed and now we are back in Maine where it rains every day and where we just discovered the new seal leaks like a sieve. Now It's off to Bangor to have the seal fixed. I do hope they don't break too many

things there.

As you may have guessed, we have had all the known problems and probably have some unknown problems to come.

I have the electrolysis problem on the slideout opening frame and also on my entry door, also have the creeping seals on one of my windows. CC has sent a claim to the window mfg for a replacment window which I will have to pay to have installed. CC is fixing the door under "Goodwill" but tell me they won't do the same for the slideout. I am perplexed at their lack of uniformity in addressing these problems, it would seem that once a company recognizes that they made a problem by using bad materials during manufacturing process that they would come up with a uniform policy for handling the fixes to these problems. I cannot understand why they would fix for some customers but not for others. There seems to be no set company policy for dealing with mfg defects at CC. They also agreed to fix my dust storm problem with a new fan controller, that was nice of them. My slideout awning has always bellowed out in high winds when traveling in westetern US, they have installed the air deflector under it which I am hoping will solve that problem. I have an appointment to go to Cummins for in Coburg, Or in an effort to identify the source of the black smoke from engine exhaust. Doug Rutherford told me in Albuquerque that he feels this Cummins service center can solve the problem. Only time will tell.

The little metal fingers on mine rusted out last year. Lazy Days replaced mine at their facility, no leaks at all since they completed the job. Total cost to replace them was around $1400 including labor and parts.

$1400 bucks, gee I hope not, especially from the factory. This will really cramp my style. They told me it would take 1/2 day to replace the seals. Guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks.

The electrolysis started showing up as little bumps or bubbles under the paint on the edges of the aluminum trim around the slides. You will see about 3/8" of the trim all around the room. Look for small

bumps on the surface. If you break one open it will be composed of white powder. I suppose its aluminum oxide.

We had it on both rooms. The bedroom was done by Buddy Gregg in Dallas and took 2 weeks. You can't stay in the rig. Find a motel.

I hate motels.

We just had the galley slide done at the factory. It is now supposed to take 2 days. It took 2 weeks. We rented a 29-foot trailer. I hate 29' trailers.

Based on my experience with sunroofs with internal drains they are great until they collect debris and get clogged. I guess there is no perfect solution to any of this. Has anyone tried installing a drain tube on the roof to direct the A/C water away from the slide area. It make only take a small piece that could potentially be installed in the A/C housing.
