New member/Pac brake

As a new member I was interested in the comments about the pac brake problem. We have owned our l999 Intrigue (#10925) since June of l999.
Bonnie and I have traveled the Western US the past year and love the coach. We have been to two Homecoming rallys and the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Rally with CC. I am sure we have met many of you.
When home, we reside in Redding, CA.
Our worst major problem had been the pac brake. We left the coach at the factory for two weeks last December and 10 miles from the factory the brake stuck on and would NOT disengage. Three shops later, Western Truck Parts in Sacramento determined the problem to only be mechanical and nothing to do with the Allison Transmission. A new Pac brake had to be installed because of the cylinder being warped.
Many months later, Pac brake finally agreed to cover most of our cost under warranty. It now works great. We do use it all of the time and if it were to sit for an extended period of time, I would start the engine once a month and bring it to at least 150 degrees. Good luck to those still having a problem with this essential piece of equipment.

If anyone would like a contact name at Western Truck Parts, please let us know.

We hope to meet some of you at this years Homecoming or the FMCA rally in Redmond.

John,

How did you come across Western Truck Parts? What is their central line of business? Was CC instrumental in getting you there or were you left to your own devices? It is incredible that a company can manufacture and sell vehicles and then be completely unable to advise the luckless owners where they might get various serious issues attended to. We have been "PAC brakeless" for weeks now and CC have no idea who or where we can go to get it fixed. I'm glad that you got your situation resolved - I hope I don't have to drive the 5,000 mile round trip to Sacramento to get ours attended to!

Jan,I'm glad that the wandering was helped by your reducing the tire pressure, I'm currently running at 100psi cold front and rear and am going to do some calculations to see if I can drop it even further.
Back to my major gripe, I have just arrived in Atlanta and find that driving without the pac brake increases the driver's stress load tremendously. As far as using the brake, I am constantly using it. Whenever I leave an interstate or drive in local traffic it is on. This trip, driving in traffic was terrible and when I arrived at my destination my brakes were really hot. I have an auxiliary brake on my jeep and that has helped alot but I want my pac back. (no pun intended)

I don't know if I mentioned it on the chat room but when I went on my first trip with the jeep brake (no pac brake) I was doing about 65 on an interstate by my home when a deer jumped in front of me. I thought to myself that there was no way we were going to come out of this without a collision and I could see the panic in his face but the motorhome did slow enough for him to get by with inch's to spare. If I didn't have the aux brake I surely would have hit him hard. I'll give you the name next note because I am not in the coach now. I believe it is Brake Buddy. It works off the air brakes in the coach, and pushes a cylinder that activates the jeep brake pedal. Very easy to put on and take off each time, a matter of seconds. I am very comfortable with it and recommend it highly to everyone that tows on a regular basis.

Freightliner has told me, after their unsuccessful attempt to repair the pac that it my job to go to Allison and have them check it out next, seems to me that this was what I told CC in the first place three weeks ago. I feel the vehicle is unsafe without the brake and will keep you advised as to what I am doing.

We own a Country Coach Affinity 2000 42ft bed and breakfast. Have had several problems. The entry door leaked water so bad we had it replaced and also had to have the entry stairwell replaced because the carpet was ruined. Have had leveling problems and also electrical problems. After almost a year our slid would not work. HWH sent us new selonoids it worked for a while. Now find that the fuse was a
7.5amp and probably should have been a 15. There are several more problems but this is a start.

I just joined this group because I have owned three CCs, a '98, 32 ft. Allure, a '99, 36 ft. Intrigue and a '00, 40 ft. Magna, which I still have. It is my fifth MH.
I noticed that quite a lot of traffic is about Monaco vs. CC. I don't think there is much to gain from this kind of discussion. There is a natural tendency to defend your group and also a natural tendency to complain about problems with your coach. Since this creates an inner conflict as well as an argument with the other group, it is a waste of time in my opinion. I will defend your right to do it, however.
I had hoped that we could help each other out by using our collective experiences in solving the really tough problems. I have one in mind, though it is not that tough.
My Heart Interface Charger/Inverter with a Remote Control was programmed wrong and ruined both coach batteries. It was using the chassis batteries for the reference to charge the coach batteries. I subsequently bought two new Lifeline AGM batteries and thought my battery troubles were over for good. The Lifeline batteries are great, they have low internal resistance, no maintenance and a five year warranty, among other nice things.
The problem is that when the Lifelines need charging, the internal resistance is so low, the Heart Interface overheats and shuts down, cools off, starts back up, overheats and shuts down again. This happens over and over until the batteries are finally charged back up. CC says they are working on the problem. The other worry is that when charging with the alternator going down the road, the coach battery has a higher voltage than the chassis battery, 14.2 vdc vs. 13.5 vdc. This is supposedly impossible if the alternator is using the chassis batteries for the reference. CC is strangely quiet about this one.
I didn't intend to say this much when I started. I will try to be more brief in the future.

Hello Larry, I had that problem on my 99 Allure when the door had to be replaced. The new door made a lot of noise. The mechanics at Bill Plemmons could not cure it, so I started adding new gaskets. I finally found the cause, it was the very bottom gasket (along the door frame) I tried several different types of gaskets before I found one that worked. It was a "D" seal (1/8") that I found at Home Depot. That was about two years ago and it's still quiet.

I also had a '98 Intrigue with a bad noise problem with the entry door. It was fixed at the factory during my "end of warrantee" visit. It made a world of difference.

I don't have an answer, but I can tell you we have friends with the same coach (they don't do computers) with the same problem from day one. CC tried many fixes at the factory and Homecoming rally, but to no avail. They still do not have a fix for their problem.

I'm a new member of this group. I have a 1994 Affinity that I've had for 5 years. We are fulltimers so lots of things break on our coach.

I've had several problems lately with the coach that CC seems to have trouble solving. They don't seem to have anyone that's been there long enough to be familiar the older coaches. My hope is that I may find other CC owners of older coaches and we could share ideas and solutions. Maybe they have had the same problems.

Example: I replaced the windshield wiper control because I lost the intermitant feature. The new control switch does not work the right. The wipers won't park until both sides are in the park position.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Denny;

I've got a 95 Magna, CC doesn't have a lot of answers on the electrical system.
They don't even have a total electrical blue print. So, a lot of problems will have to be solve with some help from the group. As for the wipers, haven't had that problem. Currently wondering what caused the small air pump for the leveling system to stop work. Might need a new pump. Also, my water fill switch isn't functioning. Water inlet solonoid is functional, so it could be a relay switch.
I've learned more about electrical system than I 've desired.

Hi all, as new owners of a Country Coach, 2000 Affinity, 42 Bed and Breckfast model, I wanted to join in on the group. My traveling partner, Linda Kissner, and I have teamed up together and we love our Affitinity. We attended the rally at Tucson, I was the satellite vendor there. I hope I successfully answered any questions you all may have had about satellite tv products. My 28 years in that industry have been very rewarding, and allowed me to meet many people who enjoy the same interests as myself. Linda was a little under the weather with Bronchitis at the rally, and never really got out of the coach. So me, and my little dog Charlie did what we could to have a great time. Charlie was a big hit, he is a Chinese Crested Powerpuff, a very unusual dog. He is cute, smart, doesn't shed, and doesn't bark, how much more could you ask for.
The Affinity, is the 2nd Country Coach I have owned, as I had an 88 model back in 1990.
Well, thats all for now, hope to see ya all again soon,.

This is not going to be pretty. Something to the tune of $3200 plus installation is what I remember from an earlier post. I do hope that I am wrong.

How many miles do you have on your '05?
We just bought our '05 Inspire DaVinci last week with less than 11K miles. I'm not sure how to tell if we have the aluminum or steel radiator. My understanding is that the aluminum radiators were a problem. Can anyone advise how to tell the difference?
Our first round trip will be about 500 miles. Have got to get out of this heat. 110 degs. today.

My Radiator went out last year at 20K miles. It was replaced with an 06 and it's still working.

Art - If it is the original radiator, it is an aluminum core. The replacement you get from CC will have a steel core, and is reputedly much more durable. I had mine replaced 4 months ago, just before the chassis warranty expired.

Hi,

I'm Ken Reinsch and just signed up for the group. I'm looking forward to learning alot about my CC '05 Magna. I may even be able to contribute a little since I've been RVing for 15 years. I'm currently having problems with all 4 slides retracting and am working with Joe at HWH who is really sharp. I've had to send in the control box for repair or replacement and will let all know how it turns out and what I've learned, if anything.
Regards,
Ken.
