Front Step does not Stay OUT

My front step keeps coming in everytime I close the door when we are parked and the engine is off. Step switch is off. Removed wires from switch and checked still comes in every time the door is closed.

Any ideas how to fix it.

We are up in ND and will head west to Montana and north to Alaska in a few days.

Al The other switch involved is the ignition switch. When you turn the key power goes to the step to retract it. Might be a problem there or a stuck relay if one is in the circuit.
