Power steering problems

Yahoo Message Number: 10666
Steve: When I took delivery of my coach several years ago, the power steering was very jerky and hard to steer at low RPM, particularly at parking, etc where it is really needed.
I felt the problem should have been caught at the QC drive out, you know initial shakedown cruise at the factory. Not! Well then, how about the pre-delivery inspection at the dealership? Not!

It was the first in a long series of repairs (haven't we all?). CC authorized me to have the hydraulic pump changed at a local diesel shop at home. After sending a couple of pumps out from the parts dept., they finally got it right. That fixed the problem.
Too bad the bozo changing the pump left the jamb nut loose and started a chain of events that became my worst nightmare, but that's another story.
My opinion is to insist on a new pump. It's dangerous to have to rev the engine to steer while parking or turning, right?
