Another tire question

Last week I mentioned to the dealer that I had some vibration in the steering wheel. They recommended that I get the tires trued and balanced.
He said that it would take about 10,000 miles off the tread, but would make a huge difference in the ride.

Ree, is the vibration in the steering a back and forth motion like the steering wheel oscillating left to right? Or does it feel like the coach is vibrating up and down and you are getting a little jumping in your foot? Is the vibe at a certain speed and will it go away with speed changes?

I have not noticed the vibration in my foot. Just the steering wheel "shaking". Seems worse at some speeds than others. I asked that the alignment be checked, and was told that it was okay.

Ree, I would hold off on the tire shaving. I know 10,000 miles isn't much but I have never liked the idea of shaving tires. I would go to a tire shop that will spin balance the tires on the coach. Also make sure they will spin them up to road speeds and not the wimpy 30-40 rpm. I had trouble with a vibration and Charles Schwabb in JC played around for 2 days. They balanced the tires, remounted tires, changed wheels, etc. Finally I took the coach to another shop and they spun the tires up to 65 MPH and the whole coach shook. A tire would go out of round at high speed but could not be detected at the lower rpm. A new tire (on CCs dime) cured the problem. There is a good place in JC called Kaiser that does good work from what I have heard, if you can wait that long. See you in Eugene.
