Cummins Engine Recall

Yahoo Message Number: 375
My coach is at a Cummins Service Center in Harrisburg, PA for the engine recall. Apparently, my coach is the first one they have had for the recall. I thought I would share my experiences with anyone who will have to take their coach to Cummins for this recall.

This recall affects any ISC or ISL engines built from June 1999 to January 10, 2001 and have Engine Serial Number range from 45878623 to 46066483. From previous posts, I thought it only affected 350 horsepower engines. My engine is a 330 horsepower engine. Some of the engines affected are rated at 300 horsepower.
I recommend you wait until you receive a letter from Cummins advising you of the recall unless you are experiencing problems caused by the defect. You should take the letter with you when you go in for the recall. It makes things easier for the people at the Service Center. When you receive the letter, call the Cummins Service Center closest to you to schedule an appointment. If you do not know where the closest Cummins Service Center is located, you can find it by visiting the Cummins Website at www.cummins.com/. You may also call 1 800 343-7357.

I strongly recommend that you ask the service manager if they have the necessary parts on hand to complete the recall. In my case, I did not do this. My coach is parked at the Service Center waiting for the parts to be shipped. I have family close by so I do not have to incur the expenses of a motel, restaurants, etc. For some of you, the nearest Cummins Service Center may be over 200 miles away. The repair takes 7 to 8 hours to complete the work. If your time or travel plans are important to you, the question of having the necessary parts on hand could save you a lot of time, money, and frustration.

Lastly, I would recommend you prepare your bedroom for the possibility of a service technician needing to work on the engine from the bedroom. The compressor will be removed from underneath the coach, but they may need to get to some bolts and lines from the bedroom.

I hope to meet you at a campsite some day. Have fun.

Dave, all great comments and advice.

I just had my engine serviced at the Cummins place in Charlotte, NC and can highly recommend them to anyone who needs to get it done in this area. They asked for my serial number when I made the appointment so that they could have the right parts on hand which is nice, so we didn't waste time. They also work from 8 am to midnight m- f, so that was convenient for us to take it in. They let us know the progress (we chose to leave it for 2 days), and kept it clean (covers on the seats, floor, etc.) as well as power washed it before we left.
They have electrical hookups (3) for those folks who need to camp in their rig. It is not near anything, so if you need to leave it make sure you have a toad or plan to have alternate transportation for awhile. Their waiting room is small, but has TV and a desk with phone.

Happy travels...Jan

We left our coach (2000 Intrigue) yesterday for the recall. After keeping it all day, they called last night to inform us that it didn't need the work done. We got this in writing, in case of future problems. Just wondering if anyone else has had that happen. We did receive the letter, as our number was one of those in the series.

I called Cummins twice regarding this recall, they assured me that the Wabco compressor was indeed the recall item, and that is what's on my engine.

I made an appointment for June 19th at Cummins, Bloomington, Ca. also they stated that they have to order the compressor.

I will check with them on June 18th to comfirm the part is on hand before I drive 50 miles for a 7:00 AM appointment.
