Fantastic Fan dirt

I hate to bother all of you with this little stuff, but I am at the end of my imaginary rope on this one. Here it goes---the screen for the fantastic fan, inside the coach is full of dust/dirt. I hate to admit that since it must be coming from inside the coach. We use the fans a lot and most days, they run 24 hours a day. Anyway, the screen is coated with dust/dirt and I cannot figure out how to clean it.

I tried to use the vacuum attachment, to no avail. A wet rag do not help either. I know there must be a way to do it, I just haven't figured it out yet.

Any ideas!

I use a brush attachment for the vacuum and have no problems...have to scrub it a little with it, but it works for us.

This issue came up during one of the Fantastic Fan seminars at the CC Rally in Tucson earlier this year.
Fantastic Fan has a great reputation for being helpful and fixing problems; however, when it comes to cleaning that screen they seemed to dig in. The only way to clean the screen properly is to take it off and scrub it (carefully). There were suggestions to improve access by replacing those eight, easy to drop, small screws with something less awkward and cumbersome such as twist locks. To our surprise, the Fantastic Fan Rep was completely unreceptive to these types of suggestions.
The rep also said not to install one of those covers over the Fantastic Fan as it will male it less efficient and negate some of the features.

Tom & Sherry----------My wife has always taken the screen down using a battery operated screw driver. Cleans it under running water with soap and a teflon scouring pad. Clean as a whistle! No complaints except HE doesn't do it! Signed, Wife

I turn the fan on high and use a small hand scrub brush. If you brush the screen with the fan on exhaust most of the dirt will blow out without getting any inside. Then apply a little Protect all or 303 protectant on the screen and the dust does not stick as well. Try it and you will like it.

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and take the screen out.(using a battery operated screw driver will save some time) If you spray the assembly outside with some Simple Green full strength, then rinse, I think you will be happy with the results.
You could experiment and buy a furnace filter and cut it to friction fit the opening, when the filter gets dirty throw it away. I do not think a clean filter will restrict the air flow to create any problems. I may try that myself.

The fantastic fan in the bathroom quit working the other day. We have had a little rain lately, and wouldn't you know it, the fan quit in the up position. The motor seemed like it was stuck. Anyway, to make a long story short, I called fantastic fan in the late afternoon in Colorado, making it the early evening in Michigan, where fantastic fan is located. I talked to someone on the night shift, and with the help of other workers, they figured out my problem. Since it was evening, and the parts and service dept. was closed, they told me how to lower the fan manually.

The next day, I called the service dept. and explained the situation.
They said they would shipped out a new board and motor UPS. I fully expected to have a billed enclosed with the new parts, but-----no bill. The invoice said "no charge".

Thanks a lot Fantastic Fan for your great support.

I just thought this board should know the great support we get from some of the vendors used by Country Coach.

The procedure is not very complicated, but with my mechanical abilities, I was glad to get the help from the fantastic fan folks.
You simply remove the motor, and with a pair of pliers, being careful not to strip the turn post, turn the post until the vent cover is closed. Like I said, not too complicated, but when you expect rain and it is stuck in the UP positon, I admit I did panic just a bit.

When Fanatasic Fan shipped my new motor (free of charge) they included an emergency handle should the problem occur again. I assume they handle is available by request. This is a very good company.
