The Pac Brake is Back!

Hooray, after one day at R& R truck repairs, two days at Freightliner and two days at Allison I finally have a functioning pac brake.
Allison found a broken wire (119) at a connector between the ECU and the Allison Module. It was a pleasure going home with my now working pac brake until the ABS light went on at the dashboard. Talked to CC and we tried to reset it but it needs work. Cummins is taking my coach next week (if they can fit it in) and I'll get them to fix the problem. Allison changed the programming to allow the trans to shift down to second instead of fourth. This is really neat and should be a great brake saver.

We had an unexpected death in the family and will not be at the home coming this summer. We flew my wife home from Atlanta and I had to rush home with the rig. On the Interstate while doing about 70 Northbound I saw a tremendous amount of dirt kick up on the Southbound lanes and all of a sudden a car was in the air and over the grass medium. It landed about two hundred feet in front of me and I was all set to have a head on when somehow the driver got it onto the shoulder lane to my left. I couldn't go to the right due to other traffic and watched and waited for him to skid into my left side. I swear there wasn't four inch's between his car and my rig as he went down the side and then ended up in the grass again. Turns out that he did hit my exhaust pipe and bent it slightly. I only discovered this later that day. I must have had a guardian angel watching over me on this trip.

Jan, unless you are staying at a spot for a long period of time, I don't think you need to worry about critters. We never have taken any precautions and have been camping in a MH since 87. Just don't park on a fire ant hill.

Good for you. We're not doing so well. After three weeks in the local Cummins shop, two missed trips and a near $6000.00 bill, we still have no PAC brake. New charge air cooler, radiator, air conditioner dryer, compressor heat exchanger, transmission cooler, dipstick assembly, air compressor, exhaust manifold, grease and oil everywhere but, no PAC brake.
Symptoms same as before - butterfly spindle is essentially frozen. Close it with a pair of Visegrips and it stays closed, in fact it stays anywhere it can be rotated to. According to Cummins "it's fine now!".
Guess we are back to CC baiting for a few days to see if we can generate any interest there.

Sorry to hear about your sister-in-law John.

Peter.

These old messages might help someone who is having PAC brake unresolved PAC brake issues. I had those as well for almost 4 years, had an intermittant PAC brake and it seems no one could isolate the problem. Finally last fall Tim Reed, CC rep at Lazy Days (no longer there), solved the problem by going into the steering bay and replaced a relay in the Allison module, (VIM (?) I believe.) Since that time PAC brake has worked as advertised.
