A/C Condensation Running All Over!

Parked our coach in San Antonia, Texas for a month with the result of gallons of water pouring over the sides of the coach from both air conditioners. Some dripped inside. We thought that maybe it was just Texas. Have parked in the Payson, Arizona area for the last month and a half with no dripping inside, but plenty over the sides. Has anyone installed a drainage system like homes have had for the past 50 years? John

We had a 2003 Intrigue 36' that had the same problem. The rear a/c dripped condensation on the bed. We believe it had come from the factory in this condition. CC and Buddy Gregg were unable to find a fix.

John, my 03 Allure 30811, not too much later than yours, has such a drainage system. It's a tube draining out at the rear of the coach just in front of the mud flap. It works well, but we still have drippage inside when in areas of very high humidity.

Our '01 Ingtrigue had this problem big time. Stored in at an air base facility and unburnt kerosene added a black residue to my condesation. Had a multitude of black steaks down the sides, front, and back every morning.
I installed the 3m gutter (a rubber like plastic catch ridge) around the entire coach, leaving each corner open. All condensation now stays on the coach and evaporates. Rains end up running down the four corners now and nothing on the sides, front, or back. We got out 3m product at Quartzite, but have seen it at RV rallies.

Can you give us a company name so that we may contact them as to where to buy it? Had even thought about laying a bead of white sylicone (sp?) around the top with corners being left open, but would like to get the stuff that you found.

Our rear heat pump:A/C unit started to leak onto the bed earlier this year, so I simply popped off the ceiling grille, tightened up the mounting screws to compress the roof gasket a little ... no more problem. I usually check our RVs' screws' tightness on a regular basis, but hadn't done it yet on this new-to-us coach.

Not directly answering your question ... but there's a gadget advertised in the rear of FMC magazine called the "Van Pan," which is a plastic pan to be installed between your roof and the A/C unit. It has drain tubes at four corners so the condensation can be directed where you want it. However, I know someone who installed several of the units and was VERY unhappy with the devices' (in)effectiveness. He removed 'em.

Thanks for the posts on the subject, managed to visit Payson today and found no pan, only 3/4 inch openings dumping on the coach roof, one on each side of each unit. Talked to the factory and they said about the time my coach was made they started putting in drains, but mine doesn't have them. Morning dew running off both sides of the coach is another problem, so the 3M gutters appear to be the best option. Has anyone seen them for sale in Arizona? John 2002 Allure
