PacBrake-How to Access?

Does anyone know if the PacBrake can be accessed from under the coach to lubricate it? Some time ago, I visited with another CC owner who was going to the factory gain access for lubrication. Probably through the bedroom above. I hope that isn't true! John 2002 Allure

John it's not that hard, I lift the bed, pull the cover and put it back together, 30 to 40 min. tops thats with having a cup of Joe.

Mac it sounds easy, does the carpet just roll out of the way? Also, once out of the way, is there an access panel in the floor? Thanks for the help. John

I did a post about pacbrake lube some time ago. My PacBrake cycles once when the ignition switch is turned from the off to on position. The PacBrake is best reached on my coach through the bedroom. On my 2002 Allure with the bedroom slide, there is a hidden panel under the carpet on the step in front of the mirror.
Lift with the help of a couple of screw drivers, then remove the 4 or so bolts in the panel below it. Probably a little trickier to get the pieces back into place as a lip of the carpetted wood lid slides under the vertical carpetted panel below the sliding door rail.

There is a specific PacBrake lube in a small bottle. The brake should be lubed every year.

Now that my PacBrake is not mounted upside down (plunger should be on top), I can see it operate from the rear engine hatch. A bottle of lube with a loooong small tube attached to the end of a 4 foot stick would reach it. You hold the stick and get someone to squeeze the bottle -- just an idea. If coach was on a hoist, I would expect you could stand under it and reach it, but really don't believe it could be done with a creeper on your back.

I have a 2002 Allure, & didn't know that I should lube the PacBrake. I've had no problem with it. Sounds kinda tricky to lube. Should it still be done?

PacBrake recommends yearly lube. They make a high temp lube.

You don't need to do it unless you want to risk the lost of significant power on an uphill incline after going down hill with the pakbrake on. I was on the grapevine in CA when I lost power and started belching smoke when the pacbrake did not turn off. Not something I want to experience again. If you have room on the road, you can pull over, let the pacbrake cool and hopefully release.

It is now part of my regular service.

Just an interesting note on the Pac Brake issue. After having the so-called "hang-up" of my engine brake on at the bottom of the long grade down into Vegas from the California hill, I went to Cummins and enquired about the lube product.
The service manager advised me to use a non-petroleum lube such as liquid graphite. They didn't carry any specific lube product. Odd, I thought.
On my coach, lubing the Pac Brake requires lifting the bed and removing the plywood engine cover for access. It isn't something I look forward to doing, but does give me a chance to scope things out and clean up a bit.
I've only had one occasion where the mechanism has hung up during nearly 50k miles. I believe I was off and on the throttle a few times while descending that long grade. Since then, I've been a little nervous about it happening again, even with the recent lube, so I now try to use either brake or throttle, but limit the amount of times I apply throttle when the brake switch is on.
I couldn't get any power until I was nearly stopped on the shoulder. At that point, traffic is zooming by at 75 to 90 mph with horns blazing. Not a happy place to be. As a matter of fact, I-15 between Vegas and the LA basin is one of the most congested and dangerous stretches of road in the west.

I ordered the Packbrake lubrication direct from them, it cost $5.95 plus $4.07 shipping. They indicate that Synco makes the product called "Super Lube". The phone number is 1-800-663-0096, Jim Foster is the one to request. When it comes in, I will try and do the job thanks to all your help. John
