Military Camping

Retired early from the Navy and have not looked back having existed corporately since have had no need to investigate my benefits any further than to verify the monthly deposit into my savings. This is officially referred to as a "retainer" until I hit 30 years at which point they call it "a retirement check". I tend to refer to it as my alimony check from the Navy.

Since the RV bug hit, I've been researching RV parks ad naseum on the web. Then I remembered some bases have campgrounds. Digging a bit deeper I've discovered one benefit of all those years cooped-up in a submarine that really does pay off - there are a lot of military camp grounds around the country. The best resource I've found so far is Military Living publications. I figured it was $16.00 down the tube when I ordered the book. It arrived today and after a few hours of reading I've changed my mind. Book will pay for itself the first night we hook-up.

Anyone have any other resources to check out? I'm still a sponge when it comes to absorbing information.

Gee... if I quit my job I can...

Happy Trails,
Kent

-Kent, there is actually a book out called Military campgrounds. It is available at all military exchanges. I've used these campgrounds on two occasions and was very impressed. They rivaled any civilian campgroungs I've stayed at.

Mike - I think that's what I spent $16.95 on - I concur - money well spent!

I just retired from the Navy myself. Great career! We live in Colorado Springs and go to the Air Force Academy Famcamp all the time, especially for football games (Air Force and Oklahoma on Labor Day weekend.

We have bought the Military camping book also, it have enjoyed it very much. Did you know that Cheatham Annex in Williamsburg, VA has a Famcamp and it is $12.00 a day for six days and the seventh day is free! Enjoy the book and your retirement. You earned it! Tom

Who can camp at Military Camping? Do you have to be a retired lifer? They sound nice.

Looks like active duty military, reservists, retirees and civilian DOD types. I'm still figuring it out though...

Kent,

Thanks. My husband was a Green Beret reservist in the 70s. It would be really nice if we could stay also.
