Broken shocks on 2004 Intrigue and ????

Was speaking today with Independent Diesel Repair in Rancho Cordova CA (near Sacramento) -- a shop recommended by CC (and I have used for repair of my 2002 Allure).

He commented that in the past month he has had TWO 2004 Intrigue's in his shop for rear shocks which were pulled apart!!! Seems that if you use the air levelers to raise the rear end too much, you can pull the shocks apart -- because the factory installed shocks do NOT have enough travel. CC paid for their repair with the same shocks but would not pay for shocks with longer travel.

This extreme leveling can also raise havoc with the arms on the leveling valves.

His experience was with two 2004 Intrigues, but it might apply to other models of the same(?) year. Did 2004 use larger air bags or ???

My visit was due to a coolant leak which was hopefully solved by the tightening of some hose clamps.

I have a late 2003 Allure 40' Tag and broke the left rear drive shock while raising the coach and backing up out of a Truck Stop entrance that would have bottomed my Oil Pan. CC after 1 year has not solved the problem, except to say they believe it is to much travel for the shock, this is not a final statement from them. I am still working through it with them.

Interesting information. While dry camping in my 2004 Intrigue this past Thanksgiving, we were parked on dirt, until the rains came!. We were then parked on mud where my coach sunk to the belly pan. When trying to raise the coach using the air leveling system, we extended the shocks to far and both the rears broke. At the Freightliner repair facility in Decatur Alabama, we checked the vertical travel both fully inflated and fully deflated and found the travel to be 6" more than the total travel of the shock absorber. The shocks were replaced with standard OEM's even though I disagreed with the repair thinking that the CC design was somehow deficient.

Anyway, bought another one scheduled for delivery Dec 1...
