ISC Cummins Valve Adjustment

Yahoo Message Number: 12555
Was talking to a Cummins Service Rep. today. He suggested a valve adjustment after 20,000 to 30,000 miles. I thought I read in the Cummins literature that it was much longer than that?? Is this the case or was he just trying to sell me a unnecesary service?? Thanks

Lee in Portland with '01 Intrigue with ISC Cummins 350 HP with exactly 30K miles ...........

Lee,

My Cummins ISC Owners manual states on page 2-6; 150,000 miles to the first valve lash adjustment and every 50,000 miles thereafter. I would ask to see the Cummins service document which indicates otherwise.

Lee,

My 2000 Intrigue has around 57,000 miles and I've been in numerous Cummins Centers for service and none has ever recommended a valve adjustment. Sounds like an effort at revenue enhancement on the part of the center you visited. I think the manual recommends valve lash check at around 100,000 miles.

Thanks Ray,

I took our '01 Intrigue in for service at Cummins NW-Portland this morning. The guy on the service writers desk said 50,000 miles for the 1st adjustment and 50,000 miles after that. I've read in at least 6 different places in my Engine Manual that it is 150,000 miles for 1st.. Maybe Cummins has learned something since the manual was written or the local dealer is just trying to sell their services. At any case, I'm waiting to pay that $270 charge.... The "Older" non-electonic engines need sooner adjustment, said the service writer..
Then it is on to Pacific Diesel in Ridgefield, Wa. (30 miles to the north) tomorrow for the 2 transmission filters. Cummins NW -Portland does not service Allsion trans. right now travman100" travman100@...> wrote:
