Rearview Mirrors

I am trying to figure out which way you get less blind spots with rear view mirrors---looking through the windshield (mirrors forward) or looking through the side window (mirror adjusted out to the side). Thanks.

The mirror arms on our '98 Intrigue are "fixed" so we don't have a choice.
I see the mirrors through the windshield ... and an advantage is that, by having the mirrors forward, it reduces the distance the mirrors protrude from the side of the coach. This may not seem important until you go through a verrrrrryyyyy narrow tunnel or bridge ... your left mirror is over the centerline ... and here comes a truck or RV whose mirror is across the centerline, too!

And you can't move to the right 'cause your right side mirror is sticking way out there!

I've heard of quite a few cases of mirrors "kissing" in this circumstance, and it's not a cheap "kiss." Figure $500 minimum for parts. And, in a worst case scenario, structural damage can occur or the mirror could come through a window!

Another advantage of of having forward mirrors, by the way, is that you look at them through the a fog-free windshield instead of side windows, which may be fogged up. Or have a screen in the way ... in the case of the right side mirror.

As for potential blind spots, I'm sure it varies with each coach.

When we picked up our Affinity, I noticed the drivers side mirror was pointing backward, and the pass side was in the more traditional forward position. I pointed this out, as it looked weird.

Our salesman was an over the road trucker for years, and he said it was that way to get the mirror closer to the driver, and clear the front pillar. He pointed out another Affinify down the way and it was the same way. It is also shown that way on a pic of an Affinity I got off the CC webpage and are using as wallpaper on my laptop.

I think it will work either way, as the arm is longer on the passenger side. I was going to move it out front and try it, but I think I will just leave it where it is. It does look kinda' strange however.

Our '05 Magna was delivered with the mirrors set the same way. I moved the driver's out in front of the windshield to the more traditional location. Works fine for me, but now the different arm length is really apparent.

Our 05 Magna was delivered with the mirrors around the side also and we could not get the coach in the garage this way. So I moved both mirrors around front and they work just fine that way, and my wife likes them better this way also. She always worried about a truck hitting the mirrors when they were on the side.

Thank you all. Right now the driver side if up front but the pilar interferes a bit. I will move it out and back and see if it is better. I am also getting some wind buffeting that could be caused by the forward mirror. Will see.
