Jeff-- thanks for an interesting solution for my problem. Yes, it is the flush-clean system that I'm dealing with. New question: If the tank is only 1/8 full when you add the ice, will the scouring action reach high enough up the walls to get where it's needed? On the other hand, I can see where the ice wouldn't come in to contact with the lower part of the walls if it's too full. ????? Paul

Paul,

you assessed the situation correctly. The ice cubes swim on the surface. Therefore, you need just enough water to make them move fast and knock off any debris on the bottom where your flush-clean inlet is. If you also want to clean the walls, add more water and buy another bag of ice.

By the way, it helps to drive like a maniac when you clean your tank that way. For optimal results, make many tight turns. The only problem is that the officer might not believe you when you say, "I'm not drunk. I'm cleaning my wasterwater tanks." ;-)
