Audio suggestions

I am replacing the original TV in my 1998 Allure with a flat screen and also are looking at a much upgraded audio system with full surround sound. Currently, I am looking at some kind of a Bose setup because the speakers are so small. It occurred to me that, because of the width of the coach, a center speaker is not really required. Also, I was planning to put the subwoofer under the dash in that compartment in front of the passenger seat. I would replace the current large solid cover for that compartment with a grill covered with speaker cloth.

I'd appreciate any ideas those of you who have installed home theater quality sound in your coaches. Budget (within reason) not an issue, heck the TV is costing nearly $3 grand.

Also, are any of you receiving over the air (OTA) HDTV broadcasts through your batwing antennas? Given that the antenna requirements of HDTV are so simple, it occurred to me that I could just receive it OTA through that antenna. I don't want to fool with a dish at this point until we retire and start traveling much further afield.

I installed a Sony satellite 5.1 home theatre system with dvd player capability. The 500W system with a passive subwoofer cost about $400 two years ago. I liked the passive because it did not need an electrical outlet nearby. The subwoofer is mounted on the floor behind the navigator chair and works great. The five small speakers are dual cone speakers, not as sexy as the Bose, but much less expensive and sound great if not better than Bose in my opinion.
The center speaker you will want because it is the "voice" speaker in home theatre. The system will rattle your crystal if you want it to.

I purchased the specific system because of sound quality, power, passive subwoofer dimensions, and most importantly, the size of the tuner/dvd player which was one of few that fit in the A/V cabinet above the navigator chair.

Thanks Dean, how did you run the wires? I looked in the wire chase on the left hand side of the windshield and it is absolutely crammed- -no space for anything. I also have the problem of locating the rear speaker on the slideout side.

The Sony wires are very thin proprietary wires instead of the typical speaker 16 guage wire. Amazingly, they give great sound. I used a steel fish tape to pull the rear wires from the Fridge wall to the AV cabinet above the navigator chair. Then I did the same running from the TV cabinet over the driver to the microwave on the street side and around the front to the AV Cabinet etc.

I have no slides. My wires run above the ceiling and down thru the tops of the cabinets at each location. With a slide, you will need to find a better exit point.

I used an extendable magnet tool to "catch" the fish tape and then pulled the wires back through the opposite way. It took a lot of blind experimenting to get the tape to feed where it needed to be.
